THE MEDALS OF A HERO - Temi Odejide ‘From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.’ – Gal. 6:17 What really makes a hero a hero? What are the distinguishing characteristics of a hero? In answering these questions we often immediately rush to speak about the outstanding strengths of heroes; their willingness to stand for something against daunting odds, their strength to keep on when every other person has stopped, their courage to ignore the fears and persevere… As accurate as these characteristics are, I think an often-distinguishing mark of a hero is not his strength but his weakness. However the very weakness that could disqualify them as heroes is potentially what could be trigger for the hero within. I don’t want a hero that has not been through anything. ‘…that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.’ – 2 Corin. 1:4 He that can give real comfort must have gone through a situation requiring comfort himself otherwise his offered comfort would be plastic & devoid of real empathy. He says His grace is sufficient for you, for HIS STRENGTH IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS. Therefore you can boast in your weakness, that the power of Christ may rest upon you. (2 Corin. 12:9) - STRENGTH IN WEAKNESS To be a true hero you have to learn how to turn your weakness into strength. The real mark of a true hero is one who has been able to turn weakness into strength. Some are looking for a perfect hero… (There is none outside of Christ). I am looking for an imperfect hero: a weak made strong hero: a hero who owns his weakness but has learnt how to turn it into strength: to teach me to do the same. The real medals of a hero are not on his wall but in the marks in his soul & body. The anointing flows through the broken places.
