THE MIDNIGHT RESCUE TEAM was in full swing last night/this - TopicsExpress

THE MIDNIGHT RESCUE TEAM was in full swing last night/this morning, saving a dog who had been dumped at a gas station, using our super sleuth skills to find owners that Pet Watch could not, returning the dog, dealing with sub-par attitudes regarding a super sweet dog. Got a call a little after midnight, coordinated a rescue team, left my house about 2:30AM, and returned to my house about 1:30PM. The details are so dishearening (dogs are throw aways?) that I wont go into them all so I can be as brief as possible. The initial call came in that this person witnessed a pit bull being thrown out of a car and abandoned at a gas station around 11:30pm/midnight; the witness took the dog home, but was unable to keep the dog as they already had 2 dogs in her home and one was freakin out ... the caller was asking if I could help. My first thought was N O, I cant. Its midnight, I have no where to take the dog; the dog cant stay at my house and I have no other facility. My heart said something different. It was pulling on me to tap every resource I could to help this dog. If you rescue, you know what I mean. Whether it sounds practical or not, if you can get it done and save a life, youve got to at least try. I contacted every one I could think of to help. Finally, the efforts, the universe, gave us a driver, transportation and someone who had space for him in Plant City. 2:30am we headed to Plant City from Tampa. Have you been on I-4 or in Plant City about 3 in the morning lately? A. Little. Scary. We ended up at the place where the dog would stay for the night about 4 in the morning. They left the light on for us, thank you. Got the dog out of the car, walked him around in their yard and trying not to break our neck in the dark. Kennel was ready, but he didnt fit. Hes a big boy, Over 75#. And pit bull strong. Back to Tampa. Transporter agrees to put the dog temporarily in her house, we knew we couldnt keep him there long. There were several cats and he likes to give chase (as most dogs I know will). Got the dog settled in; its now about 6:30am. You hungry? Yeah. Im hungry too. The goal was to find a vet to scan him as soon as someones office opened up. This dogs nails were manicured, he walks well on a leash, hes at a good weight, ears were (badly) clipped, and he was well-behaved. My first thought: This is somebodys dog. Prayers went up that he was chipped. After breakfast, we found ourselves going back to get the dog, and were the first person sitting in the parking lot when the vets office opened at 8am. Guess what? The dog is CHIPPED! We were elated; now if we could find the owner, we can return this dog and smile as we call it a day. Not so fast. The registration was not updated, but I had enough information to go do my sleuthing and long story short, I found the owners using a different database; found phone numbers, using a different database, and made a connection. I made phone calls. Pet Watch could not find them, but I did. This is way beyond the call of duty, but I just felt like I needed to give the dog the best possible chance of living and not end up back in the shelter. After talking with a family member, we were off to locate the last known address given and last registered owner. TROOPER was happy too. The dog now has a name and he perked up when I called him by his name. OK. Im tired of writing, so heres the bottom line. Owner and girlfriend broke up. Women sometimes can be vindictive, and think they can hurt the other person by taking one of their prized possessions and destroying it. Men are like that too. Breakups and divorces are hard on kids, and hard on the pets. Not on my watch. Relinquish form was signed, I threatened with court and every legality I could pull out of a hat, including calling the police for animal cruelty and abandonment. We are going to network Trooper to find him a better home with people that care, but for now he has shelter, food and is with people he is familiar with. What I am asking from you is to share Troopers story how he almost went down the rabbit hole; how boyfriend had no idea his girlfriend was selling/giving away Trooper at a gas station. Lesson for anyone reading. Microchip your dog, but please keep the information current. Here are a few photos of Trooper; at the end are the two people who own him. If you know these people, please help us monitor how Trooper is being handled. We need as many eyes on this dog as possible. He lives in Temple Terrace around 52nd and Busch. Help us find either a foster or someone to adopt him. Contact me: Jackie. 813-412-6256 or jdbeiro@gmail. Ive been exhausted since getting back home; cranky because I wanted to sleep but I couldnt. I finally turned the phone off, but our work isnt over. Trooper is up to date on shots, neutered and will make someone a great dog; he needs a forever home ASAP. Trooper is almost 2 years old, is a pit bull terrier mix, and he is as strong as he is gentle.
