THE MIND OF DIMEJI BANKOLE: MAKING PROGRESS AND HAVING PURPOSE Have you ever felt your life being stocked and not seeing expected outcome? Or have you reached a point in life and by the passing seconds, you question your productivity and dissatisfied with your state while you wonder how far you are behind? The question above denotes that progress is the major need of everyone. A major misconception about progress is motion. The problem is that so many folks mix progress with motion purely because they think that progress is measured in relation to how far we have gone in the life journey – it is how sound. Abraham Lincoln said and I quote ‘’ it is not the days in the years but the life in the days that matters ‘’. Motion is an act of moving. For progress to truly emerge, your motion must go in a particular direction and for it to move in that direction, you must have a purpose in mind. One must note that a life without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder. It is evident that ship lacks direction without a rudder. Therefore progress cannot be separated from purpose Purpose is the result that is desired or an intention. In other words purpose is the act of intending to do something; resolution; determination; an aim; a goal. Therefore purpose in life of a man is a commitment to live in a certain way in order to achieve an objective. Purpose functions like a rudder that gives direction to one’s life. Vision is simply what you see yourself becoming in life. It is your personal responsibility to design your vision which must be in alignment with your purpose in order for you to live a meaningful life. It should be known to you that you are a product manufactured by a manufacturer to serve a purpose. A product does not determine its functions. However, the manufacturer does. THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A PURPOSE It gives clear direction with purpose in mind, and your vision well clarified, you will thread a specific path because not all roads lead to your desired destination. So you need not to embrace all doors that open to you. That is, you have privilege to select or choose which way to go. 2. It generates momentum. Energy is harnessed to pursue a goal and achieve it and this is because your purpose is what you are passionate about. Passion generates energy and enthusiasm 3. It enhances speed. Often time, we do think that the speed of an eagle is as a result of its energy. As a matter of fact, eagles don’t fly with cloudy vision. As soon as the vision of their destination is clear enough, they move at once and with a tailblazing pace. 4. It aids your management and maximizes your resources. The resources at your disposal will be well managed and used effectively; the reason is that they will be channeled towards achieving a particular goal. When you make use of your resources wisely, achievement of maximum result is inevitable. 5. It brings out the best in you i.e. you have ability to maximize your gifts. Imagine what happens when a pen is used for opening the tin of milk, what will happen is that you will get it damaged. The major problem of many people is that they function at the wrong places; therefore their very best cannot be seen and celebrated. This is probably the reason people around you are not seeing anything good in you and this makes your best not to be visible to you. Purpose helps you to locate your place. Think of the effect that the pen will produce when it is used in writing. This is effective use because it is performing the intended functions. Folks; keep the hope alive.
