THE MIST (2007) - by Frank Darabont, starring Thomas Jane, and Andre Braugher From the classic Stephen King novella that first appeared in the now mega-classic horror anthology Dark Forces, the titular MIST settles over a small town, hiding inter-dimensional predatory creatures straight out of a Salvador Dali nightmare. Shoppers att he local supermarket barricade themselves in, and fight to surtvive the onslaught of slimy monsters that crawl, slither, and fly. But, even with the threat outside, its human nature that still proves to be the most dangerous, when a religious zealot causes panic, uproar,a nd persecution in the copnfines of the store they are trapped in. THE MIST is a total throwback to the atomic horror films of the 1950s, and has direct DNA linking it to seminal creep outs such as FIEND WITHOUT A FACE, THE THING, and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD to name just three. A love letter that only Darabont could deliver, the love of goffy yet terrifying flicks pours out of the frame to spill all over the viewer in tentacly waves. I put this into the uncredited as a classic column, and it sits on my top shelf at home. A must. https://youtube/watch?v=LhCKXJNGzN8
