THE MONUMENTS MEN-2014(PG-13)-Feb. 7. By:The Movie Guy. This is the true story of the search for some of historys greatest artworks during World War II. Oscar winner George Clooney stars as Frank Stokes, an art historian who with the approval of President Franklin D. Roosevelt led a group of fellow art historians & museum curators which includes James Granger played by Oscar winner Matt Damon, Richard Campbell played by Oscar nominee Bill Murray, Oscar winner Jean Dujardin as Jean Claude Clemont, & Golden Globe winner John Goodman as Walter Garfield into Germany to retrieve and return the artworks to their rightful owners before Hitler’s army destroys them. In order to know which artwork goes to whom, Frank sends James to get information from Claire Simone played by Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, formerly Hitler’s secretary and now in possession of the records of all the artwork that Hitler & his German army stole. Along with starring in the film, Clooney also directed & co-wrote the screenplay with his producing partner & fellow actor Grant Heslov. They have created a entertaining, funny, & fascinating insight into part of our history that many don’t know about including me. The performances from the cast were very well done & everyone worked great together. I was highly disappointed by Cate’s performance. There just wasn’t enough of her character in the film to create any real interest. Cate’s talent’s was underutilized. I felt like I was there during the film. It was stunning & shocking to know that Hitler & his men stole over 750,000 artworks during the war. SEE THIS FILM.
