THE NEWS INTERNATIONAL REPORTS: In Lakki Marwat, Col Dr (r) Amirullah Marwat is the frontrunner for ticket on NA-27. He contested election on the seat in the May 11 elections and stood third by obtaining 18,405 votes, according to Election Commission of Pakistan website. There were speculations that Jehangir Saifullah has been given the ticket that led to protest by Amirullah’s supporters, but the party said it has not yet made decision about the candidate. Jehangir, who comes from the Saifullah family, later withdrew from the run. “I am surprised why the party is not announcing the award of ticket. What’s causing the delay?” Amirullah asked. “Now I get embarrassed when workers ask question as to whether I am given the ticket,” he added.He served in the armed forces for 28 years as doctor and rose to the rank of colonel. The 57-year-old PTI leader retired from service four years ago, according to him. Amirullah said he was a natural candidate of the PTI in Lakki Marwat as he enjoyed goodwill among the people, had a vote bank that other PTI hopefuls did not have and kept contact with workers. He said the vote bank of his family and tribe was around 25,000, but a cousin of him also contested election in the May 11 elections and therefore he could not secure full votes of his family and tribe. “My chance of being nominated as candidate seems to be much, much higher,” he said, when asked how confident he was to secure the ticket. However, he said no leader in the party had contacted him so far. A former bureaucrat Khan Bahadur Marwat and Salim Nawaz, PTI district president, are also aspiring for the ticket. The retired colonel said he would perform better in the by-polls because people now knew him well as compared to the first election when he was new to politics. The confidence to get ticket has encouraged him to start election campaign. “Last week, I ran campaign in at least 35 villages. I meet voters everyday,” he said. SAM IMRANIST
