THE NORMAL HEART, activist Larry Kramers nearly 20-year-old largely autobiographical play, premiered on HBO tonight. Who saw it? Its a raw, angry made-for-cable film with a high profile cast. It bluntly portrays the early to mid-1980s when the AIDS epidemic was relatively new. Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, and Julia Roberts are very passionate. I was a bit disappointed in Jim Parsons; his character did not seem to me much more than another Sheldon Cooper. This is not an easy story to tell. Yet its an outspoken document depicting a time many now choose to forget and the young may not know. Watch it, if you can.
