THE NUMBER IS IN..13,652 orchid flowers open on one orchid at the same time!!! A new unofficial world record at Ian Andersons Caves Branch Jungle Lodge. Congratulations to Ella and her Botanical specialists. Report from Ella Anderson: We have a new record and as far we know an international record! A few years ago we rescued this orchid from the dump, it was not in bloom and looked pretty ugly. This orchid, a well known Belizean species, Oncidium sphacelatum, also called Dancing Ladies or Shower of Gold, keeps surprising us. A few years ago, it had 11,310 orchid flowers opened at the same time. This year 3 people from the botanical garden started counting it, after one hour one of them could not take it anymore, so it was Junior and Marvin who ended up counting every single flower for 3 hours straight.
