THE OBSCURE CONNECTION YISRAEL AND CUSH: CITY OF GILGAL AND ENGEDI IN KENYA “The Roman historian, Tacitus, asserted that the people of his time considered the Jews to be Blacks. He has written that “Many again say that they [the Jews] were a race of Aethiopians origin (Book V Chapter 2).” What was considered Ethiopia/Aethiopia Ethiopians/Aethiopians in the time of Tacitus 56 AD 100 AD and well before his time ? The term Ethiopia was first used by Ancient Greek writers in reference to the east-central African kingdom that they believed to be not only culturally and ethnically linked to ancient Egypt (Kemet), but the source of such civilization as well. Contrary to popular belief, the term was not exclusive to the landlocked modern country of Ethiopia. According to early Greek writers, Ethiopia was an empire originally situated between Ta-Seti in Lower Kemet and the confluence of the White and Blue Niles. Centuries later, however, the name became synonymous with a much larger region that included the present-day countries of South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Central African Republic, Chad, etc. Ethiopia is the English transliteration of the Greek word Αιθιοπα (or Aithiopia) which originates from the Greek word Αιθιοψ or aithiops which literally means charred or burnt. Aithiops is in fact composed of αιθιω (meaning I burn) and ωψ (meaning face or complexion). Prior to Greek history, Ethiopia was known as Kush by the ancient Egyptians. The Buhen stela (housed in the Florence Museum), which dates from the reign of Seti I (1294-1279 BC), refers to this region as Kas and Kash. Kush is also mentioned as KSH in other texts dated between 1550 - 1069 BC. In the holy bible, We find reference to Kish/Cushi/Cush. Could it be, The names Kish/Cushi/Cush are shared on both brothers Ham and Shem? Seeing, that the Israelite men took wives of cush ? (See Number 12:1) Examining the scriptures I find this Obscure connection with Cush and Benjamin. We see this connection hit close to home in book of Psalms, Which reads as follow Psalms 7:1 (KJV) Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.]] O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me Author Rufus Perry, in his book The Cushite, Or, The Descendants of Ham: As Found in the Sacred Scriptures and in the Writings of Ancient Historians and Poets 1894 Had this to say about the obscure connection. CUSH THE BENJAMINITE. The seventh Psalm, the Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the Lord concerning the words of Cush the Benjaminite, presents a man whose racial identity is indicated by his name. This Cush was a man whose position and rank enabled him to stain the reputation of David and endanger his life by false accusation. We take no stock in his false tongue; but in his lineage. Then who was he? The inference most agreeable to the letter is that he was a black man belonging to the tribe of Benjamin. While I whole heartedly agree with the Author concerning the Color of This Benjaminite. The obscurity still remain concerning the connection with Cush. In Hebrew culture a name was important. It revealed something about you. A name revealed some characteristic about your birth, or a hope for your future. Sometimes because of this, names were changed by God. The name stood for the whole character of that person, as it was known, manifested or revealed. Proverbs 10:7, 18:10, 22:1, 30:1-9. We find this name Kish(Phonetically the same as Cush/Cushi) in various scriptures, Predominately amongst the Southern Kingdom Of Judah . I will provide the following definitions of the name Cush(Kush). If youre reading this article, with a clear mind, free of bias, and religious Dogma, there should be No doubt in your mind concerning the (Kingdom of Judah Kush/Nubia/Ethiopia/Ta-Seti) connection. KENYA/Ethiopia: CITY OF GILGAL SAUL IS MADE KING AND DAVIDS HIDING PLACE IN ENGEDI BOTH FOUND IN KENYA. Before we further explore the intriguing connection between Kenya/Ethiopia, and the First Two Kings of the Nation of Israel. Lets first bridge the Gap between Kish, and the Tribe of Benjamin. There were probably a number of distinguished Ethiopians living in the land of Canaan and in Mesopotamia. These Ethiopians(Kushites), doubtless, intermarried with, and took on the national character of, the people among whom they lived. There was a time under the judges of Israel, when the other eleven tribes had almost annihilated Benjamin in civil war, for shielding the wicked men who had committed a fiendish outrage on the wife of a Levite at Gibeah, within the borders of Benjamin. The eleven tribes, knit together as one man, took a solemn oath never to give any of their daughters in marriage to the remnant of Benjamin whose tribe they had resolved to extirpate, (Judg. xxi. 1.) Under this embarrassment, a Cushite damsel was at a high premium. Indeed, the preservation of the tribe of Benjamin was so hopeless under the circumstances, that the eleven tribes, after sober reflection, relented, and evaded their oath inciting the wifeless men of Benjamin to ambush and seize upon the maidens of Shiloh when at a public festival they came out to dance. It was to this tribe that Saul belonged, (1 Sam. ix. 1, 2.) Doubtless there were a number of honorable Cushite families with whom the Benjaminites and the other tribes could easily communicate and associate. It was only to prevent degeneracy into idolatry that the Israelites were forbidden (Ex. xxxiv. 16.) to intermarry with the original inhabitants of Canaan; so then the letter of the prohibition could have been departed from, and no doubt was to a limited extent, without a violation of its spirit. THE RISE OF KING SAUL SON KUSH SON OF BENJAMIN Keeping with connecting the dots, through the Holy Biblical Scriptures. We find, Saul first king of Israel father was named KISH(1 Samuel 9:1). Keep in mind the importance of names in the Hebrew culture. This is no doubt accurate and fitting with the Narrative of the civil war And nearly extermination of The tribe of Benjamin. Sauls father Kush, was most likely a descendent of Benjaminite men who took women of Kush (Judges 21:20-21). Could this too be reason for many Southern Kingdom Men with Kush in their names ? CITY OF GILGAL(GILGIL) IN KENYA The name Gilgal in the Bible There is a bit of a disagreement about how many separate Gilgals are named in the Bible. BDB Theological Dictionary and HAW Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament list five; NOBSE Study Bible Name List mentions two, and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names goes straight for the payload, the famous Gilgal of Joshua, and disregards the others. At Gilgal, Sauls kingship was solidified by the universal acclaimation of the children of Israel. Despite the nation being unified under the new king, Samuel still wanted to rebuke the people for ignoring and rejected what God had done without a king. Samuel said “I have heeded your voice to make a king over you and here he is walking before you... now I am old and greyheaded and have walked before you from my youth.” He challenged them to testify against him if there was any law that he had violated in all that time, and they could not but rather affirmed his righteousness. Samuel recounted a telescoped history of Israels varied deliverances at the hand of judges sent by God in the face of their waxing and waning loyalty to Him. One day while looking at a map of Kenya, I discovered a place called Gilgil. Gilgil, Kenya, is a town in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The town is located between Naivasha and Nakuru and along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway. It is to the west of the Gilgil River, which flows south to feed Lake Naivasha. Instantly I thought of King Saul and the anointing at Gilgal, making him the first king. This was very Intriguing, Why would Gilgal be in Kenya ? Remember, Kenya is considered part of Kush/Ethiopia/Nubia. Also call to mind the connection and intermarriage of Benjamin and Cush. Connecting the dots, it wouldnt be outlandish to hypothesize the assumption, Benjaminites receiving inheritances from their Kushite Ancestors. Could it be? For this same reason, the scriptures describe Saul as being Very tall (1Samuel 9:2). This assumption is very fitting as well, The Maasai tribe in Kenya average height is over 6ft tall. Not satisfied with this discovery, I embarked on a mission to uncover the truth, and to make this obscure connection more comprehensive. Putting my Israelite supremacy mindset aside, i continued scanning the map of Kenya. Weeks passed, and I was still unable to draw anymore connection from the map. One day while re-reading the story of Saul, I came across the climax of the narrative. Which told of conflict that ensued between then king Saul and Future King David. THE GEDI RUINS OF KENYA: THE ENGEDI HIDING PLACE OF KING DAVID. In The Biblical records, 3,000 years ago David hid from King Saul at Ein Gedi. When David surprised the King and spared his life after finding him unarmed, Saul said David would succeed him on the throne. Reading this narrative and scanning the map for the Name Ein Gedi, I was unable to locate it in Kenya. Just when I thought to myself, Give it up, something told me to plug variations of the name Ein Gedi into google maps. The very first variation I plugged in was GEDI !!!! .. Lo and behold, Google maps scanned the World and zoomed in on KENYA!!! THE RUINS OF THE LOST CITY OF GEDI Gedi is one of Kenyas great unknown treasures, a wonderful lost city lying in the depths of the great Arabuko Sokoke forest. It is also a place of great mystery, an archaeological puzzle that continues to engender debate among historians. To this day, despite extensive research and exploration, nobody is really sure what happened to the town of Gedi and its peoples. This once great civilization was a powerful and complex with a population of over 2500, supposedly built during the 13th century, I find this date Outlandish, Just from looking at the ruins, its easy to see they date long before the 13th century. The ruins of Gedi include many houses, mansions, and elaborate tombs and cemeteries. But the greatest of all of Gedis mysteries was its sudden and inexplicable desertion in the 17th century, another date hypothesized by archaeologist which I find hard to believe. Over the centuries, the tale and hunt for the lost tribes of Israel, and the archeological proof for their kings. This illusive shadow of mystery has incited much fascination within historians, archeologist, philosophers, and the average Joe alike. Explorers have trekked the world-over looking for these tribes and its kings. For myself, no other place on the planet, incites the feeling of fascination and intrigue like MAMA AFRICA. In my next article, Ill be exploring Kenya/Kush/Ethiopia/Nubia. Looking for clues to this puzzle, by taking a closer look at the tribes.
