THE OL PEJETA VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME SPECIFIC AREAS WHERE VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE COULD BE WELCOMED Conservation Programme (Manager: Martin Mulama, [email protected]) Wildlife • Northern white rhinos: development of an effective but simple monitoring system also capable of capturing data on all other key species within the enclosures • Production of a report to analyse the various methods now being employed across Africa and Asia to deter poaching of rhinos; to compare, contrast and evaluate impact of these methods for possible implementation in Kenya Security • Tracker dogs: training handlers/dogs/ development of kennel standards Ecological Monitoring • Support across ALL monitoring areas – vegetation, wildlife • Assistance to update rhino database (audit, new photos, etc…) • Assistance to use remote cameras to monitor specific species (e.g., hyena) • Maintenance of giraffe photographic database • GIS work, improvement to GIS database • Analysis and collation of previous data gathered (game counts etc, corridor use etc) Chimpanzees • Development of simple methods to monitor behavioral traits • Development of enrichment techniques/apparatus PR and Marketing (Manager: Elodie Sampere, [email protected] Photographers to assist with development of image library • Assistance with developing video for YouTube and other social media • Design work • Writers Tourism Programme (Manager: Annick Mitchell, [email protected]) Customer Care: • Training to improve standards of customer care in key tourism areas • Tourism guide training • 1st Aid training (across all departments) Product Development: • Assist tourism department with development of materials and in house literature designed to add value to existing activities on offer • Assist tourism department with development of SOPs, training materials/manuals, operations check list and templates
