THE OLD MAN & THE DEVIL A faithful old soul was on his way to the mosque to pray. He thought he would amble through the creek, which was down yonder from his home, treading carefully over the stones . As he stepped over the stones he fell in the creek & became all soiled. He decided to go back home to change his muddied clothes & take another shower in his country side home. After a shower he got dressed again, and went on his way. He took his cane with him & thought he would be more careful this time, stepping over the stones at the creek once again. As he was traveling to the mosque, he slipped & fell in again. Again he decided to go back, take a shower & change his soiled clothing. Then, he was on his way again. As he was falling into the creek for the third time, a young man grabbed his arm, preventing him from falling, and helped him to the other side of the bank. The young man offered him to walk him to the mosque. When they got to the mosque, the old man offered the young man to come in & pray with him. The young man boasted, “I am the devil. I am forbidden to enter the mosque.” The old man was baffled and asked, “Then why did you help me?” The devil-man responded, “The first time you fell & went back to get a change of clothing, God forgave you all your sins. The second time you fell in God forgave your family & all those that will pray with you at the mosque. If I let you fall in a third time, God would have forgiven all your Ummah (nation) their sins.
