THE PEACE OFFERING CHRIST AS COMMUNION WITH GOD Leviticus 3:1 1 And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. Leviticus 3:6 6 And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace offering unto the LORD be of the flock; male or female, he shall offer it without blemish. Leviticus 3:12 12 And if his offering be a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD. Leviticus 7:10-15 10 And every meat offering, mingled with oil, and dry, shall all the sons of Aaron have, one as much as another. 11 And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the LORD. 12 If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried. 13 Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings. 14 And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for an heave offering unto the LORD, and it shall be the priests that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings. 15 And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning. In Chapter 3 of Leviticus we find the Peace offering to be in the middle of the other 4 Christ puts peace is in the midst of the believer, then in chapter seven we find the law of the peace offering it is last, telling us that if we look at the whole work of our Saviour by faith we will end up with a peace that passeth all understanding. This offering was put here as a provision, because of sin there is no peace, so God in His love for sinners made a way of reconciliation, and with that brings peace, sweet peace. Peace cannot come through man’s work, peace only comes through Christ who did the work for us and sat down on the right hand of God when it was finished, it is the provision of God, in the person of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; He satisfied the demands of a Holy God, in the death, burial and resurrection. This offering has a purpose in that it shows reconciliation between God and man, sin severed the fellowship man had in the garden, the bible tells us that Christ came to save that which was lost and reconcile the sinner. Three phrases are used to describe this offering. • Thanksgiving • Vow • Free will All three equal praise, when we have fellowship with God our Saviour, what sloshes out of the cup is pure praise. Notice verse one of chapter three - Leviticus 3:1 1 And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. It is the whosoever that shows up again in all the Tabernacle; Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. It is within reach (table of shewbread) of everyone, God has provided a way for you and I to have peace with Him through His Son Jesus. I. CONFESSION HAD TO BE MADE Leviticus 3:2 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aarons sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. 1 John 1:9-10 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 2:1-2 1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. A. The Holy Spirit works to get that confession - John 16:7-9 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; B. The Bible is the writing of proof and authority - 2 Timothy 3:16 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: C. And a freewill door is opened for entrance by faith - Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. D. When salvation is had the new man experiences great peace - Romans 5:1 1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: II. DEATH CAME TO THE OFFERING Leviticus 3:2 2 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aarons sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. Philippians 2:5-8 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. A. He was satisfying the demand of God – His death for our sin B. He was reconciling us back to God – Our sin taken out of the way C. He was securing our salvation through the surety of His resurrection – He personally put His blood on the mercy seat and sat down beside it. Henry Law put it this way; • The price was all paid • The wrath was removed • The curse was endured • And the sinner set free III. THERE WAS A DIVISION MADE Leviticus 3:3-5 3 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, 4 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away. 5 And Aarons sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. Leviticus 7:31-32 31 And the priest shall burn the fat upon the altar: but the breast shall be Aarons and his sons. 32 And the right shoulder shall ye give unto the priest for an heave offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings. A. God wants His share first – All that was rich and precious was to be lifted up to God first B. The Priest was to get his part next – The minister has such a sweet share in this offering, the one who has toiled over the work of bringing sinners to the altar C. Then the offerer has his part – He has brought the sacrifice to the altar and then takes it inside him this is a type of the faith of the believer – Peter called it like precious faith. Leviticus 7:34 34 For the wave breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute for ever from among the children of Israel. IV. THERE WERE SOME WHO COULD NOT JOIN IN Leviticus 7:20-21 20 But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. 21 Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any abominable unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people. If you are lost, the Bible says you are yet in your sins. Jesus did die for you, the sacrifice has been made but you are cut off. There is no place like Hell Ask yourself these questions; 1. Is there a literal burning hell? 2. Am I going there when I die? 3. If I went there could I escape it? Psalm 9:17 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Matthew 22:13 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Mark 9:44 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Matthew 25:41 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 1. There Is No Darker Place Than Hell Outer darkness! It is outside all light • all natural light • all man-made light • all spiritual light • all God-given light • all the light of the gospel • all the light of hope • all the light of peace • all the light of pardon 2. There Is No Lonelier Place Than Hell A. Lonely for loved ones • Wives and Husbands • Children and Parents • Friends – all gone B. Lonely for comforts • No music • No soft touches • No flowers • No mountains • No cool breezes • No cool water • No calm voices 2 Corinthians 5:11 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;… 3. There Is Not A More Restless Place Than Hell Revelation 14:10-11 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, Restlessness is the absence of Peace 4. There Is No Enduring Punishment Like This Place Called Hell Revelation 20:10-15 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. • No hope – eternally • No God • No Exits Romans 5:8 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Isaiah 1:18 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. John 1:12 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 2 Corinthians 6:2 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) 2 Peter 3:9 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. It is not the will of God for anyone to go to Hell, He is pleading you to come, Revelation 22:17 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
