THE PIPE: Ohhh, this is so going to piss off - TopicsExpress

THE PIPE: Ohhh, this is so going to piss off you Native Traditionalists and your not going to like this but it needs to be said, sorry, when I;m in my zone doing what I do and something comes to me from spirit and am instructed to share the info. then it needs to be shared (you natives know what I mean)...Granted, a extreme rarity in my case, I mean I much rather do posts on Heavy Metal and other things and keep it simple (well, as simple as my posts can get) but.......this takes exception and needs to be said so here it goes.... The pipe (the Lakota version anyway) was brought to the people (not just the men mind you) by White Calf Buffalo Women, another words a women. When ceremony is being done the Male doing the ceremony joins the stem (male) and the bowl (female) at the beginning representing the unity of the two. Question, if that is the case then would it not make sense for a women to be holding the bowl and a male to be holding the stem allowing both to be joined at once during the ceremony and smoked together? The reason that is not as stated is cause the female is too powerful especially during her time, so much so that if smoked sickness and bad luck can bestow the male if he smoked it during her handling of it. Well, in that case then the male should have nothing to do with a female during that time, and not even approach her in anyway. Now how many men do you know of would follow that rule? I ask you is the stem of the pipe more sacred then what is attached to your own body? I find this a good excuse to exclude women from what would otherwise would be a even more powerful ceremony of unity. The way its done now only serves to create further separation and fragments the male and female energies. The time has come to move past this and would suggest to you that this tradition could have either been distorted and/or misinterpreted for it makes no sense and if something does not make sense then it needs to be questioned. Before you elders or traditionalists call for my execution I suggest you think very carefully about what I just said. Why is it that we can be so quick to question and criticize other peoples traditions yet not our own? What makes you think that ours were not tampered with and trust me there are loads of examples of that. I find much of our traditions these days influenced by Catholicism and its puritan views improvised after the European invasion. Before we go around pointing the finger at others we first better start to look in our own backyard.... The time has come for the true joining of the Male and Female energies on a higher level of consciousness ascending from the old ways of separation and bondage which only serves to stifle that goal.
