THE PONY HABIT just LOVES interesting Equine facts! LIKE & SHARE...feel free to share your experiences/thoughts! This is a photo of a new born foals hooves showing the eponychium and horn tubules of the hoof wall, which wear away when the foal begins to move around. The eponychium is the covering that protects the mother from the foals hooves while in the womb. It forms a soft pad over the surface of the hoof, the moment it makes contact with the air it begins to dry out, go stringy and drop off.
