THE PRECESSION OF THE CHURCH I do not expect most people to understand the term “precession” however it is a physics term. It defines a spiraling movement which intersect itself but which forms a cone which in effect moves away from its place of origin. Each revolution intersects its previous path but forms another different and distinct path. As I said, it in effect forms a cone. Many years ago the church revolved around Christ, His gospel, and the efficiency and authority of Scripture. However as the years went by that clear gospel path began a precession, and although it had an intersect with the previous generation it still was moving away from gospel truth. And with many future paths the intersect was with a previous generation which had no substantive intersect with the original path clearly outlined in Scripture and the footprints of the original apostles. Please understand what I am saying. The intersect, or common bond, the previous generation had was not with the original truth of Scripture. It intersected at a common bond with the previous generation which had already been compromised. That intersect, although seemingly orthodox, was contaminated and had already strayed from gospel truth, and what now seemed to be a common thread was in effect a common bond with error. It is an ingenious and strategic plan orchestrated by the author of lies. It both soothed our orthodox consciences and at the same time deepened the stakes and lengthened the cords of our compromised tents. And it did not remain stagnant. The precession continued and continued and continues today. Please imagine a three dimensional circular, or elliptical, path which spirals upward and interests the previous path. The paths not only move away from the original point of the cone, but each path also has a point of contact with the previous and the next path. And even though the cone seems to be geometrically sound the fact remains. The outer paths are moving systematically away from the original point. Only the first path had any geometric relationship to the original point. All subsequent paths would be detached to the original point although all the paths seem to resemble each other. I openly apologize for being pedantic, but I feel this is understandable and observable. In relevant terms we today understand and teach the faith through prisms that in many cases were polluted and weakened through cultural prisms, contaminated teachings, and through the spiritual law of thermodynamics which in spiritual practice results in entropy. In other words through many years the quality and accuracy of the spiritual practices diminish with time, and eventually end up in an inauthentic reflection of truth. Again, I apologize for using principles I have learned in terms of physics. But there is a remedy. The first step is to recognize the ongoing phenomenon. And the second step is to repent and leave the precession. And that begins with a personal journey towards the original point of the spiritual cone. That point has a name. That name is Jesus. The journey will not end in a week or a month or a year. In fact it will be a life long journey. But that journey can only be made if we escape the spiraling effect of the visible church. Step outside the cone, repent, and breathe in full the fresh air of Jesus. I am convinced you will live once again!
