THE PROBLEM WITH THROWING MONEY AT THE PROBLEM Many of us yearn for wealth, the six or seven figure pay cheque. The fat bank account, the lush that comes with accumulated income, we believe money is the answer to it all. By the way, Ive heard some Christians especially those who now speak Christianese quickly quote the portion of the scripture that says Money answereth ALL things, laying so much emphasis on the All. It is fast becoming a national phenomenon that money goes round each time a situation arises. People die and we plan to give their families money. Without attending to the cause of the death. The child isnt doing well in school, we ask the Teacher what we can do to encourage the Teacher (with financial incentives in mind definitely) You hear parents discuss their wayward child and their first statement goes something like with all the money I spent on this child. MONEY IS A TOOL We need to understand that money is a tool. Lets take the situation of a mechanic, you walk into his garage and he has acquired state of the art tools. Everything looks set to get your car fixed and put it back on the road but Alas! The Dude has no idea how to put the tools to use. It is my opinion that this happens to be a classic case of the Nigerian situation. So much money being thrown around. *Extremely expensive Political campaigns that makes people go broke soon after they lose elections. *An incumbent empties the treasury during campaign, he needs to return. *Parents spending so much time away from their children chasing money only to throw same at the children without proper training. There is this rich Yoruba adage that says Òmò ti à ko kò lo ma gbé ilé ti à kò ta, a child badly brought up will squander all of our labour. The Politician is of the opinion that throwing money at the people would keep him in power but he forgets that the things he has left undone will soon be his undoing. He loses an only son in a fatal motor accident on the road he didnt fix. The boys he refused to educate and genuinely empower kidnap his mother. The Parent who spends all the time chasing money is soon murdered by the drug addict child. Ecclesiastes 7:12 For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: BUT the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it (emphasis mine) Stop throwing money at the problem, it is a temporary solution.
