THE PROSPECTUS OF THE REGIONAL AD HOC TRAINING ON TROUT CULTURE - TopicsExpress

THE PROSPECTUS OF THE REGIONAL AD HOC TRAINING ON TROUT CULTURE Inland fisheries and aquaculture in the Central Asian countries, i.e. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has dramatically decreased since the independence of these countries from the former Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics in the early 1990s. Limited management of the resources, lack of policies, limited capital investments, outdated technical know-how and low institutional capacity are the main reasons why the regional inland fisheries and aquaculture production has not gained momentum since 1990s despite the large potential available in these countries. FISHDEV Central Asia (GCP/RER/031/TUR - Central Asia Regional Programme for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development) has been accelerating fish culture activities since 2009 in the region. Among the fish species that have been promoting in the region, trout culture is becoming more important day by day; because of its economical and nutritional values. Besides; the clear and cold water resources are quite suitable to increase the trout production in Central Asia. Although the people know the species very well, it is quite difficult to consume trout regularly for them. The main reasons that created the situation and increased the market price are low production amounts but high production costs. These negative factors depend on the lack of practical information on trout culture. During the FISHDEV programme, FAO organized some theoretical trainings to support the trout culture activities, prepared two feasibility projects on the establishment of a trout hatchery and a commercial fish feed production in Central Asia. In the last Tri Partite Review meeting of FISHDEV which was held in April 2013 in Dushanbe - Tajikistan, the country representatives stressed on the organization of a fully practical training on trout culture. Upon this request, it was put in the FISHDEV work plan for 2013 and was decided to be organized in Turkey that have the biggest production capacity in Europe and the third one all over the world. The training will be organized by FAO, with the close cooperation of Alka Trout Production Company that is located in Fethiye – Mugla, in terms of the heart of the trout production in Turkey. The company is the biggest trout exporters to the European market with its more than 1000 tons of annual capacity. The training will provide a high level practical information and experience to the trout farmers and trout culture experts who will be nominated by their Ministries of Agriculture. After the training, it is expected that the participants are going to play a key role to develop national strategies/policies on trout culture in their countries. The information that will be provided to the participants during the training are; Managing trout broodstocks and a hatchery division of a trout farm; Improving on-growing and feed management applications; Planning annual production strategies and sustainable increasing policies; and Commercial production problems and solution methods. The training will be organized at the facilities of Alka Trout Production Company 24-28 September 2013, in Fethiye-Mugla. It will be conducted under the supervision of Mr. Ozgur Altan (Aquaculture Expert of FISHDEV) and Mr. Fuat Tomgisi (General Director of the company). In this context, depending on the budgetary limitations and the working conditions of the company, the attendance of only two participants will be accepted from each Central Asia country. Both of them must have the experience on trout culture and it is essential to have participants who have not joined any fish culture training under FISHDEV. FAO particularly welcomes the nomination of the qualified women. The services that will be provided by FAO were indicated below; Flight tickets and travel organization; Hotel accommodation in a single room (including breakfast); Lunch during the training in the trout farm; Transportation for airport-hotel/hotel-airport and hotel-fish farm; and Consecutive interpretation service Turkish/Russian and Russian/Turkish. The deadline for submitting the registration form is 12 September 2013 and the selected candidates will be informed on 16 September 2013.
