THE Police and Crime Commissioner visited Burton Latimer today – the first of a series of planned ‘getting to know you’ meetings across Northamptonshire. Adam Simmonds met with Burton Latimer Town Council’s Mayor Roger Knight and Councillor Fergus Macdonald to hear about the issues affecting people in the town. He listened to concerns about double yellow line parking in the town centre and updated the councillors about the pilot scheme in the Kettering district, which has enabled police community support officers to enforce parking offences. Adam said: “This type of visit is extremely worthwhile. It was very nice to meet members of the Burton Latimer community and it is something I want to do more of across the county. “Engagement and public involvement are at the core of the Police and Crime Commission and it is important that I travel around to see and hear for myself the issues and concerns that people across the county have. “I have made a commitment to giving more powers to our PCSOs but I don’t just want them to be meter maids. “It was good to catch up with PCSO Donna Fenner to hear first hand that the pilot is going well but there are of course many other valuable aspects to the role of the PCSO. “I need to see that the balance is right before giving consideration to rolling out the new powers elsewhere.” Adam agreed to attend the monthly meeting of Burton Latimer Town Council in March next year to talk about volunteering.
