THE REAR VIEW MIRROR July 28, 2013 WHAT WILL THEY SAY? I stopped by my mom and dad’s grave yesterday while coming back from a family reunion. For me it happened so suddenly and they were gone. Dad died in 1986 and mom 1999. Words like, “Godly mother, hard worker, loved her children & grand children, loved to play the guitar, made you laugh. My dad was a man of integrity and his hand shake was his bond. Provided for six children and our cousin on less than a 6th grade education. The memorial stone, reminders of a life lived and invested and then snuffed out because they were called home. What will they say about you when you’re gone? He was funny? He talked too much? He was so ADD. He never was that old before and then he died! He left too soon. Would you laugh and say, "Man he’d have a fit if he knew what his wife did with his stuff…" Jesus spent three years with his disciples, 33 years with his family and was gone. Sentenced to death on a cruel cross. Many volumes have been written of his life and death. Jesus ascended into the heavens and the disciples stood, mouths gaping. The angel brought them back to earth by saying, ”Why do you stand there gazing? This same Jesus who left will return again the same way as He left.” So moved by their experience and the resurrection, they went into action turning the world upside down with their new way of living and loving others. The world is not the same and we are still impacted by it today. So my friends, what will they say about you? Will your legacy be that you swore like a sailor? That every Friday you got wasted or drunk? That you walked out on God and your family? That you had coffee at a restaurant you frequented? A car you drove? A guitar you played or a joke you told? I hope not. I for one would like to be remembered as someone who cared for others. Who loved life and laughed. Who preached the Word with power of the Holy Spirit. Who made life better for others and impacted the world the best he knew how. I’d like to be known as a loving father and husband. Yes, and I’d like to be missed a little. Unless you have a lid over your face closing… it’s not too late. Start today. Take measured steps to impact others for Jesus. Tell your story and His. Love others without asking anything in return. Laugh lots at your self and at life. Make sure every man, woman, and child you meet, knows you met Jesus and you wanted them to know Him the way you do! Do this and they’ll say, “He was a man of God or a woman of God. I want to be like them.” Come along and try it! Now that’s a thought! Love, Pastor Mike!
