THE REASONING OF A NIGERIAN Even if Jonathan is incompetent, I cant cast my vote for those almajiris who think its their birthright to rule When I saw this post on the social network, I only wept for Nigeria. I remember an incident in which someone was very sick and when he was about to be taken to the closest hospital, he refused giving reasons that he doesnt like the doctor; that the man do claim he knows everything, he is proud, he isnt respectful, he is rich but doesnt care to help others.... Despite the fact that he acknowledged the doctor as being good in his profession, he refused going to the hospital. Sadly, before he could taken to another hospital which was quite a distance, he died on the way. Even a 3year old baby knows that the problem of Nigeria is corruption and indiscipline. The opening quote above is just one of the reasons why Nigeria is gradually sinking to a sorry state that one day will become history. Many Nigerians dont know what a good government is all about, they select their leaders for strange reasons: he is our man, he is a Christian, he was a poor man, he came from a humble family, he is a PhD holder, this is our turn, this tribe has ruled for too long, his people once killed my relative.... But does all these criteria translate to the selection of good leaders? Lee Kwan Yu ( from the popular advert on Nigerian TVs ) took just 9years (from 1963 - 1972) to transform Singapore technologically. A country that was left by the British in 1960 to die a natural death (with no mineral resources, saturated by water) became an exporter of electronics in the shortest possible time. Today, Singapore has the 6th highest GDP in the world! Lee Kwan Yu ensured that laws were strickly adhered to; death sentence for corruption, death sentence for fake drug dealers... Surprisingly, Lee Kwan ruled Singapore for 37 years and none complained because he was a symbol of good governance. In 2006, when Mohammed bin Rasheed Al-Maktoum became the ruler of Dubai emirate, he was informed that the oil wells of Dubai will get dry in the next 20 years, he embarked on a massive oil for infrastructure. Today, Dubai has the tallest man made building, it has the most expensive hotel in the world, its mere population of 2.5million is grossly insufficient to work in all the sectors such that 80% of the workforce are foreigners. In the emirate, you cant steal public money and go free, you cant rape a teenager and be regarded a hero. The Emirates is the toast of many nations, Nigerians go there for tourism, business, healthcare etc. When our politician travel to these places, they are well behaved, they are disciplined but coming back to Nigeria, its a free for all scenario. We still have reasons today to vote a man who said corruption is not the problem of Nigeria (where is then the money going to?). We are drumming support for the man who said stealing is not corruption (that is why nobody has gone to prison for stealing public funds). We still want a man who has failed woefully as COMMANDER IN CHIEF to protect the ordinary Nigerian. Its so sad that we have forgotten that the Muslims we call today as bad were the ones that crushed the deadly Islamic sects: Maitatsine (by Gen. Buhari) and Book Haram (by Umar YarAdua). If Buhari did not convert Nigeria to an Islamic country when he was an absolute Commander, how is that possible when he will be a civilian president with limited powers? The PDP led government has polarized Nigeria along Regional, Ethnic and Religious lines. It has little or nothing to shown for the past 15 years. The government is deceiving us with fakes reasons why we should keep our support. It didnt take Lee Kwan Yu 15 years to put Singapore on the part of transformation. It didnt take Nelson Mandela 15 years to set the structures in place for the development of South Africa. It has not taken Barak Obama 15 years to liberate USA from world economic downfall. Nigerians have strange reasons for voting their leaders and the type of leaders we vote will determine the type of country we will have.
