THE REVOLUTIONARY WORKS OF BERND HEINRICH ! DESCARTES ’S PLAIN STUPIDITY : «AUTOMATON, YOURSELF!» THE MIRROR TEST AND TOOL SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENT BRAIN STRUCTURE, «E.T. – CROW» IS ALREADY ON EARTH ! CORVIDS ARE FAR MORE INTELLIGENT THAN YOUR DOGS AND CATS, UNABLE TO RECOGNIZE THEMSELVES INTO A MIRROR LIKE MAN THE SCIENCE FICTION EDITOR JOHN W. CAMPBELL USED TO TELL HIS WRITERS, WRITE ME A CREATURE THAT THINKS AS WELL AS A MAN, BUT NOT LIKE A MAN. Alan Turing, in a paper way back in 1950 (computer machinery and intelligence ) offered a methodological test to cut through all the philosophical debate, he proposed a game in which a subject converses, via a keyboard, with several unseen partners. If the subject cannot reliably tell humans from machines, then the machines can be said to have passed. DESCARTES, THE MOST STUPID SCIENTIST OF ALL TIMES, considered animals to be mere automata, devoid of the spark of soul or consciousness, believed to be the mark of human intelligence. Now, MACAWS, PARROTS AND CORVIDS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO PASS THE MIRROR TEST, AS CAN MANY PRIMATES, WHEN DOGS CANNOT. Could Ravens and Crows -- the product of AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT EVOLUTIONARY LINE THAN US, as we dont share a common ancestor SINCE BEFORE THE AGE OF DINOSAURS, WITH A DIFFERENT BRAIN STRUCTURE AND ORIENTATION (their natural element is 3 dimensional, their sensory apparatus is very different), manifest intelligence ? CERTAIN ANIMALS CAN RECOGNIZE THEMSELVES IN A MIRROR, WHICH IMPLIES THEY HAVE A SENSE OF SELF, A SUBJECTIVE IDENTITY. New Caledonian crows, Corvus moneduloides, are known for their intelligent and innovative use of tools, such as twigs, which they use to fish nutritious insects out of holes and crevices. Young New Caledonian crows learn to use tools by going to TOOL-SCHOOL, where they can observe their parents at work. Accordingly, clever New Caledonian crows can use mirrors to find food. Moreover, SOME CORVIDS ARE EVEN ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THEMSELVES INTO A MIRROR. Mirror experiments with other members of same family, THE CORVIDS, have found that MAGPIES RECOGNISE THEIR REFLECTIONS, LIKE ELEPHANTS AND CHIMPS, but jungle crows, dogs, and cats DO NOT. According to Bernd Heinrich, born in Germany in Połczyn-Zdrój (now Poland) in 1940, « The most remarkable thing Ive ever seen a raven do is rather than pecking little chips out of a big hunk of suet, as most birds do, this bird sliced off a big hunk that he could fly off with; he carved out a groove with dozens of pecks all aligned till he got the big chunk. Thats planning, and postponing immediate gratification to achieve greater gratification later. » pbs.org/safarchive/3_ask/archive/qna/3293_heinrich.html fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernd_Heinrich colinallen.dnsalias.org/Secure/TCA/heinrich-final.pdf booksandbeasts.blogspot.fr/2011/03/ravens-in-winter.html bbc.co.uk/nature/14897544 news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_9125000/9125227.stm psych.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/new-caledonian-crow-cognition-and-culture-research psych.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/home/about/our-research/research-groups/new-caledonian-crow-cognition-and-culture-research/crow-research-photos-and-video-clips blogs.discovermagazine/notrocketscience/2009/06/27/clever-new-caledonian-crows-use-one-tool-to-acquire-another/
