THE SIT AT HOME PROTEST! The Northern Nigerian citizens have been crying and rising their voices to the authorities and the entire global community concerning the level of insecurity in the region that is gradually extending across the country yet, no decisive action to end the crisis. The insurgency is now consuming children and women in the same manner it is consuming the security agents and the youths. There seems to be foul play within the political leadership in all effort to fight the insurgency, we will not continue to fold our hands nor continue to be making fruitless effort on social media and international media. Enough of all the blame game and theories, we need proactive measure and none political approach in dealing with the crisis. It is on this note that the Nigerian youths from the North have decided to come together and form a single voice to cry out. As we can see, the crisis is consuming all and sundry, no exception to Muslims or Christians, poor or rich, civilian or uniform people, not even gender sensitive or balance! We have made several attempt to call on streets protest but, without success for two obvious reasons which are 1. In a moment of insecurity you dont expose people to danger on the streets, meaning, the crowd on the streets can be infiltrated. 2. The level of illiteracy which creates blind loyalty and irrational sentiment against or for leadership. There are other factors like outright fear of extra-judicial killings being the attitude known to our forces. Under these situation, we have observed the need for better approach in rising our voices beyond our homes. Let all the people in the region resort to a nonviolent protest known as sit at home. The idea of sit at home will be an instrumental action, which will lead to National and global sentiment against the insurgency for the purpose of giving it the desired attention. The sit at home will also symbolize the unifying strength of the people of the North coming together to say no to the insurgency and the politicizing of the insecurity crisis by the authority. We are trying to minimize the level of confusion on the crisis, the people are accusing the authorities in some aspect of the fight against the terrorism, the Politicians are also accusing themselves, the security operatives are also accusing the leadership for poor motivation and insincerity of purpose. Therefore, the sit at home protest will send a strong message to the authorities on the danger of the unhealthy silence from the youths in the North. On this premise, Coalition of Youth Organizations in Northern Nigeria wishes to inform all that preparation for the Sit-At-Home for the mourning, prayers, fasting and protest against the level of insecurity in the country and the North in particular is on top gear. There shall be a Press Conference with both Local and International media, in attendance also shall be Amnesty International, International Human Right Commission, National Human Right Commission, Human Right Watch, NLC, Trade Unions, NUPENG, NURTW, NUJ, NANS, CLOs, NGOs, TAXI Drivers and Okada Riders Associations, Activists, Women Groups and all Northern based professional bodies, etc. Consultation with various groups across the North is ongoing, meanwhile, the youth must continue to sensitize others on the need for non violent protest. It is our responsibility to compel the authorities and insist on proper measures insecurity the lives and property of the people in the North and Nigeria. Still fresh in our minds are the tears and blood of victims and their families in Abuja, Maiduguri, Zamfara, Yobe, Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, etc. When will all these be over? Our inaction is powering the insurgents and allowing the authority to play politics with the lives of citizens. It is time to wake up and save the lives of others so that ours can also be saved. Finally, we commend all the youths organizations that sent in their contact information, and we wish to implore all organizations to voluntarily engage in sensitizing and mobilizing the youths via local media and all available means on the upcoming non violent protest. Let us all stay together and take action against the insecurity situation in our region and the country. We shall soon be in touch! UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL THEREFORE, AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL! Kindly ignore detractors! Share, broadcast in all social media platforms within your reach. May God Almighty help us!
