THE SONGBIRD 11 NOVEMBER Daily Readings 1. Ezra 7 2. Hosea 8 3. Acts 27 Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. Act 27:20 When a songbird is taught to sing, the cage is covered with a dark cloth to make the inside of the cage dark. In our lives, darkness is not a place for talking but a place for listening and learning. Don’t talk much, because then you cannot hear what God is saying. When you are in the dark, listen, and God will give you a life message for someone else once you are back in the light. Those whom God will use in a great way experience three stages of life: 1. Firstly, there is the normal life they live before their crisis with God. 2. Then comes the crisis that defines them for the rest of their lives. 3. After that they live out the calling God has placed on their lives. Salvation is only the beginning of Gods plan for our lives. He doesnt merely want us to be saved. There is more. Much more! C.S. Lewis wrote that “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain.” Learn to sing in the dark. Learn to praise. If you are in a dark time, know this: • God still loves you • God is still in control • You will survive this crisis • Your character is being built • You are being prepared for a bigger calling • You are gaining life experience that will help others who will come after you • What you go through now will be “more precious than gold” and “… praise, honour, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” 1Peter 1:7 Don’t give up: too many people will not be empowered if you do. Mitch Mitchell Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that you are at work in my life even when I go through the darkest times and, like the songbird, I am being trained to sing. Amen.
