THE STAR....THE PEOPLE’S PAPER Dear brother murali...this is regarding the service to people who have deemed to have loss their eye sight or blind but due to negligence, poverty and in proper follow up, some are still remaining blind especially the young ones. 1.My first experience was in 2007 with a16 years old girl TamilSelvi from klang ,who was sitting and crying in the mouselum at Pulau Besar with her single mother and her physically handicaped brother...on inquiring, the mother told me the whole storyhow she was left alone by her husband with her handicaped son and blind daugther.I thought why not give it a try,may be see can a little. i was not daring enough to ask for help from anyone.I took her to eye specialist in Melaka by the name of Dr Palani. He said there is a Retinal Pigmentation on both her eyes, but with some fixing of lens and procedures she can attain a left peripheral vision. The procedure went on well and after that she claim she has a better left peripheral vision but can see things by on turning her face towards the object. The mother came to thank with tears in her eyes and was adamant in educating her and refuse to take even a single cent.Last i heard about her was ,she is in a hostel college, may be one day we will meet again. We lost the photo and records of her. 2.My second case was 9 year old girl Fatimah,a patient of mine since the age of 5...poor girl..she used to be so scared. She was the 3rd child out of 4 children. She was born, with under developed eyes, with blindness, deafness of both ears and a hole in the heart,She was taken to Hussein Onn Hospital and was told that she will go blind...and naturally she started loosing her eye sight.9 years she was blind. In the year of 2007 ,when i met her,she was unable to seeanything ,her grand mother was crying and asked my help to remove her uterus...so that no one can take advantage of her later.Thats when through our shridi sai chariyt center,i decided, to send her to Arvind Eye Hospital in Madurai,India,,,she was operated,a complicated procedure...and she came back with vision of one eye, able to see parents and colours. That was joyous moment in my life. 3.My third case is of a 2 years old girl Harini, who was hit by a firecracker which hit her left eye with severe damage with left eye ruptured glbe with corneal scleral laceration with uveal prolapse. She was treated in GH Melaka by Specialist Dr Anusia, who is kind...and through our Shridi Sai Charity Center, she was taken to Arvind eye hospital, Madurai ,India. The doctors said her damage is bad and they will try their best. She was operated, andcame back after a week.Since her orbit is still growing ,we hwve to go slow and wait and watch. There was a offer by 2 doctors to take her to Canada for treatment if needed. If there is necessary she might need a a n art of state prosthesis eye . 4.Our reseach in Melaka shows,in Melaka Orang Kurang Penglihatan In Negeri Melaka is 327 people in Melaka Tengah 228 people in Alor Gajah 143 people in Jasin total of 698 i n 2010 5.its not the fault of the doctors, half of the blindness is due to negligence of care takers..poverty and ignorance and lack of awareness.i am sure at least 10 to 20 out of 698 can get back the vision if we put an effort. 6.i am writing to share my experience of those who was deemed blind and by Gods grace and mans touch who got back their vision and i am sure many more can benefit. 7.Lastly...at least some will be seeing for us after we close our eyes.
