THE STORY OF GUDU MEJE ATI YAAYA MEFA (as told me by my boss): this story happened during the colonial era in a town in Yoruba land. A Divisional Officer went to visit a group of workmen clearing a portion of land for the DOs residential apartment. When if saw the work done by the labourers, he said, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, in appreciation of the workmens effort. Looking around once again, he blurted, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When the illfuds workmen got home in the evening, they gathered round a gourd of palmwine to tell the days story. A particular black man, with protruding belly said: oyinbo ajele ni a se gudu meje ati yaaya mefa [the white man said we did seven good and six yeahs.
