THE USS WARRICK (aka-89) was an Andromeda-Class Attack Cargo that was actually named after Warrick County, Indiana!! Its service history was: World War II 1944-45, Inter-War years 1945-1950, Korea & The Pacific Fleet 1950-1957. It received Two Battle Star Awards: One for her World War II services, and another for The Korean War. Made at Oakland , California on April 7, 1944, it was launched on May 29, 1944, Decommissioned on December 3, 1957, Struck on July 1, 1961, Reacquired by the Navy April 20, 1971, & Sunk as a target ship on May 28, 1971. The USS WARRICK sailed to Manna, Hollandia, Finschhafen, Longmak Bay, New Guiena, Hollandia, The Island of Luzon, The Phillipines, The Marianas, Lingayen Gulf, & other ports. At one point, it loaded 1,131 tons of Army equipment -mostly vehicles - and embarked with 17 officers and 210 enlisted men to Lingayne Gulf just 2 days after the first of the Army troops under the command of General Douglas MacArthur had splashed ashore at Lingayne.
