THE VIRTUES OF THE EVERLASTING GOOD DEEDS Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [ones] hope.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 18:46) 🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁🔁 What are the Everlasting Good Deeds? 🌺سبحان الله🌺 Glory be to Allah; to acknowledge that Allah is free from all imperfections and deficiencies • Negate from Allah all the imperfect attributes. For instance, He will never leave His creation without guidance, He can never be unjust, He never feels tired, He never forgets, and He is never heedless. • Negate from Allah any shortcomings in His Perfection When you say Subhaan Allah, you attest to the fact that Allah’s attributes are always perfect, never increasing or decreasing, because they are at the maximum. His Seeing, His Hearing, His Mercy, and His Knowledge (just to name a few of His attributes) are all perfect and never change; on the other hand, for example, when you show mercy towards someone, your mercy is not perfect and can increase or decrease. • Negation of Similarity to Creation Another meaning of Subhaan Allah is to negate Allah’s resemblance to anything from His creation. No one can resemble Allah in any way. For example, you cannot say to someone that he is merciful like Allah (Astaghfirullah!). No one is like Allah: “There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Ash-Shuraa, 42:11) “Nor is there to Him any equivalent.” (Al-‘Ikhlas, 112:4) The Virtues of the Everlasting Good Deeds 1. MOST BELOVED PHRASES TO ALLAH The Messenger of Allah said: “The dearest phrases to Allah are four: 🌺 سبحان الله Subhaan Allah (Glory be Allah), 🌺الحمد لله Alhamdulillaah (Praise be to Allah), 🌺لا اله الا اللهLaa ilaaha illa Allah (There is no deity but Allah), 🌺الله اكبر Allaahu Akbar (Allah is Greater). There is no harm for you in which of them begin with (while remembering Allah).” (Muslim Sahih, Book #39, Hadith #5724) 2. MORE BELOVED THAN ANYTHING OVER WHICH THE SUN RISES The Messenger of Allah said: “The uttering of the words: Subhaan Allah (Allah is free from imperfection), Alhamdulillaah (all praise is due to Allah), Laa ilaaha illa Allah (there is no true god except Allah), and Allaahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) is dearer to me than anything over which the sun rises.” (Muslim, Book #16, Hadith #1409) 3. NO DEED WILL RISE ABOVE THIS DEED THAT DAY Umm Hani bint Abi Talib came to the Messenger of Allah and said that she was getting old and weak, and wanted to know an act of worship she could do while sitting. He replied to her: Recite Subhaan Allah 100 times, it will be as if you freed 100 slaves from the Bani Ismaeel (best lineage). Recite Alhamdulillaah 100 times, and it will be as if you gave 100 saddled horses ridden and collected for the sake of Allah. Recite Allaahu Akbar 100 times, and it will be as if you sacrificed 100 best camels in an acceptable sacrifice. • Acceptance by Allah is guaranteed. Recite Laa ilaaha illa Allah 100 times, and it will fill the space between the heavens and the earth and no deed will rise above this deed that day, except that it is like this one. (Al-Albani, Hadith #1553) 4. FORGIVENESS OF SINS The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever says Glory be to Allah (Subhaan Allah) thirty- three times and Allah is Greater (Allaahu Akbar) thirty-three times and Praise be to Allah (Alhamdulillaah) thirty-three times, and seals the hundred with There is no god but Allah, alone without any partner. The Kingdom and praise belong to Him and He has power over everything (Laa ilaaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadir) after every prayer will have his wrong actions forgiven for him even if they are abundant as the foam on the sea.” (Malik, Book #15, Hadith #49) 5. THE FALLING OF SINS Sins will fall as the leaves falling off a tree. 6. PLANTS OF PARADISE For each utterance of Subhaan Allah, Alhamdulillaah, Laa ilaaha illa Allah, and Allaahu Akbar, the plants in paradise are being grown for you. 7. BEST BELIEVER The Messenger of Allah said: “There is nothing better with Allah than a believer who aged in Islam, who says Subhaan Allah, Allaahu Akbar, and Laa ilaaha illa Allah. (Al-Albani) 8. ALLAH HAS CHOSEN THESE WORDS The Messenger of Allah said: “Verily Allah has chosen four phrases: Subhaan Allah, Alhamdulillaah, Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Allaahu Akbar. Whoever says Subhaan Allah will have 20 good deeds written for him, and 20 sins removed, the same for Allaahu Akbar and Laa ilaaha illa Allah. Whoever says Alhamdulillaah Rab al alameen will have 30 good deeds written for him, and 30 sins removed. (Ahmed, Al-Albani) 9. SHIELD FROM HELLFIRE The Messenger of Allah said: “Hold on to your shield from the fire. Say glory be to Allah, all praise to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is greater than everything, there is no strength or power except with Allah. They will come on the Day of Judgment preceding and following, and protecting. They are the everlasting good deeds. (An-Nasaa’i) 10. SWARM AROUND THE THRONE When you utter Al Baaqiyaat As-Saalihaat (the everlasting good deeds/phrases) from your heart, these phrases will swarm around the throne of Allah with a buzzing sound and will mention its reciter, though Allah is all Aware, All Knower of its reciter. What a great honor from Allah for those who utter these phrases! 11. HEAVY ON THE SCALES “…So as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy, they will be the successful (by entering Paradise).” (Surah Al-‘A’raf, 7:8) The Messenger of Allah said: “From what is heavy on the scales is Subhaan Allah, wa Alhamdulillaah, wa Laa ilaaha illa Allah, wa Allaahu Akbar.” (Kashf Al Istar) 12. EACH PHRASE IS A CHARITY 13. MAKES UP FOR THE ONE WHO CAN’T RECITE THE QUR’AN PROPERLY Those who are unable to memorize chapters from the Qur’an can read these phrases in their prayer. This is a gift for those who have just reverted to Islam. They can utter these adkhaar until they are able to memorize Surah Al-Fatihah and learn the prayer. 14. ONE OF THE MEANS TO ENTER PARADISE On the authority of Abdul-llah bin Amroo bin Al-AaS (may Allah be pleased with him) the Messenger of Allah said: “There are two traits no Muslim servant keeps them except that he entered the Paradise. They are easy and those who preform them are few. After every prayer he makes Tasbeeh (saying Subhaan Allah) ten times, he praises Allah ten times [saying Alhamdulillaah] and he makes Takbeer (saying Allaahu Akbar) ten times. That is a 150 on the tongue and a 1,500 on the scale. If he goes to bed, he makes Takbeer 34 times, he praises Allah 33 times, and he makes Tasbeeh 33 times. That is a 100 on the tongue and a 1000 on the scale. They said: O Messenger of Allah, how come they are easy yet few people do them? He said: the devil comes to one of you on his bed and makes him fall asleep before he reads it and he comes to him [after the prayer] and reminds him of a matter before he reads it.” The narrator said: I saw the Messenger of Allah circling his fingers [indicating that it is easy yet few people do it]. (Sunan Aby Daood no 5065 and Al-Albaanee graded it as authentic in Sahihut-Targheeb no 606/Sahihul-Jaami no 3230) Bid’ah
