THE WORD OF GOD TEACHES US TO PRAY. Praying has to do with a personal relationship with the Word of God. By the Word we know what to pray for and how to pray. We cannot pray amiss praying according to the Word, there is no knowledge nor power to pray outside of the Word, otherwise it become just a form of Godliness but denying the power. This is why teaching the Word precedes prayer. We must agree with God and what He says in private prayers and cooperate prayers; together, we must agree with God. This helps us to understand why our prayer meetings could get boring; we could all be in one physical place, we may even be holding hands but may well be in different places in our minds. II Corinthians 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Prayer is not about impressing people with many words and lots of physical commotion, It is not about being loud or soft. God must be impressed, even if it just one word that can be said or no words at all; for sometimes in prayer words may take a flight. God understands the expression of the broken and contrite heart. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Psalm 51:17 God hears everything but pays attention to what He chooses to pay attention to. God heard both the Pharisee and the publican in prayer but the Pharisee was not worth paying attention to; he left receiving nothing from God. He was satisfied with himself because thats how he prayed, with himself. I do admire people who can spend a very long in prayer, I wish I could pray longer. I must confess my prayers are very short but I always have something I want to discus with God, so we talk often and He doesnt just hear, He listens. Sometimes we talk longer than usual and it flows and its really cool. I must also confess there are some things I just did not tell Him and I dont understand why, because I really want to tell him everything. The following verses is key: 26 ¶ Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
