THE WRATH OF THE MANGOES By:Samuel_Doves I finally opened my eyes, looked over the room curiously,an act that happens when i needed to find a lost item or when i just had a nightmare,my eyebrow twitched,i hesitated all because i caught the glimpse of something on the dark-but-yellow-painted-wall,i hurridly searched for my torch,flipp-up its switch and directed its white ray towards the object that remained static to the wall. My heart sank in affirmation as the cockroach began to walk slowly towards the direction of my horizontal cupboard,it stopped, flipped its tentacles before racing out of my sight. I pressed the top botton on my Android phone. The light on the screen flung open showing the digital clock, date and the nine pattern for unlocking it. Its dawn already. I had my devotion on time before going out into the brightness of the day. A day i had so much been optimistic about to be packed up with good things,a day of great assumption of expectations. I did all my house chores willingly and finally went back to my bed after my break--fast because it seemed that i was fasting even after a supposed break. At about half past twelve,i knew i had really used the time as the day demands. I walked out of my room into the passage consisting of many rooms as well as occupants, got to the big black gate placed between two concrete pillars, went back repeatedly from room to gate and from gate to room. I became predominantly restless. Suddenly, and with an immediate impulse,i heard a sound outside, not knowing the exact point it came from,i became shocked then i began to hear screams and shouts. I listened with care. I became froze. I quickly flung the door open with haste and ran out towards the direction i had heard the scream. Under a mango tree,a fat man popularly known as yellow was lying with his protuded tommy, they were shaking his body delicately and calling his name,no response,he merely remained stiff and static, blood was dropping in dots from the side of his left ear. He fell down on the tree while he was trying to pluck a mango everyone was saying this in their own various manner, way, understanding, belief and what is really meant by falling down from the top of a tree. I quickly jacked up a bucket of water beside me towards the fainted man, everyone shouted,i dropped it with ease. A vehicle was quickly called and he was bundled into it to a private hospital. I sat in the front sit with the three-tribal-marked driver while Yellow was at the back with two other male occupants. We struggled through the traffic and swallowed all the other drivers various forms of abuses emanating from their mouth with anger, angrily. We finally entered the gate of the white-painted hospital. I opened the cars door and rushed into the entrance Theres an emergency sir i said to a man putting on a Campala-made native wear.He looked at me as if he wanted to digest the words before beckoning on the nurses. He followed me to the car, asked some questions i believed to be silly and then allowed us to carry him into the hospital. He was revived. I quickly proceeded home with the driver and then, without further thought of doubt,i swallowed softly and re-enacted the enormous wishes of the day, without exempting the moments of tragedies as this. I got to the walled fence of our house, walked down from the cab into the compound filled with countless eyes, all ready to listen to the success story of the previous rush hour. I never hesitated. I gave it to them with assurance........Samuel_Doves
