THERE ARE CERTAIN SONGS WHICH I FIND VERY EMOTIONAL, NO MATTER WHO SINGS THEM. Song for Ireland is one of them, sheer poetry. I find this song touching because of my affinity to Ireland and Dingle area. Dick Gaughan was the first person ever to record Song for Ireland on the ‘Handful of Earth’ album of 1981. Song for Ireland was written by Phil and June Colclough. They came from North Staffordshire, England. The song was inspired by a trip the Colcloughs took to the Dingle Peninsula. My favourite rendition is the by dear Mary Black. youtu.be/bk0kzcVmkSA William Hammond Cork Folk Festival-Féile Chorcaí
