THERE IS A LOT MORE FOR A ZEDIAN TO VALUE AND SAVE…THAN LOSING - TopicsExpress

THERE IS A LOT MORE FOR A ZEDIAN TO VALUE AND SAVE…THAN LOSING OUT ON THE CURRENT TREND The other day I was laughing it out with some of my great pupils…of the year 2013! Among them was Mr. Wordsmith (Jeson Banda), and other DaFloyd Academicians. It was funny when Jeson went like Bricklayer I really need to know something about you? Who are you and where did you do your studies? I posed and answered: “I was in a good Prison! I studied in the school of Hard Knocks?” All the guys busted in laughter… saying Bricklayer you are crazy and I said sure I know…thanks for your kind words… After giving this answer; I told them that “It does and doesn’t matter at times to where we have been or what academic qualification one may have…what matters most is the passion, endurance, and commitment one has in the given area of studies or career one desires most…I continued saying take an example of Atom, or Muscle Boy or Mr. Word Smith you guys study and do what you do not to pass exams but for the sake of knowledge and that fulfillment that comes with your engagement in these intellectual activities…” If you where to ask me again where I really studied I would say first it was my Mum and grandma who taught me through the Zambian Stories and value of our norms… as well as introducing me to Christianity…which I would strongly believe was formed on the basis of our positive cultural values… I remember also my grandma telling about medicinal plants that; Aloe Vera is good for wounds and cleaning the body…she also taught me that food is meant to be shared because there is enough for everyone for God makes it rain so as to enable us farm; in order to share what the soil gives us with others…this was my basis for education As well as all the stories I received rooted in our traditional and Christianity morals…After that I had an opportunity to take time out and look inside me under the guidance of great people…who I own my life to date because they enabled me to consider education not basing it on a piece of paper one gets at the end of stipulated time frame…for this reason as a Bricklayer am a student for life…as for academic papers, I may not know what you need me to give you…ask me if am happy as a builder I WILL SAY SURE AM HAPPY...and if I was to live another life I will still choose this same life…and change only one or two things that are too deep and personal which I believe one day you will read about or watch… Finally, may the real and unique Zedian stand up and value what our forefathers and mothers stood for as in good great moral values of justice, diversity in culture, human dignity, religion, health, informal and formal education, unity and oneness…for me these are the values we Must value and protect as Zambians because they give us Identity and direction. Education should enable us to synchronize the old, the current and those of others into one without confusion. If for any other reason we lose out on these three we give our roots to a much more focused culture; and by so doing we disappoint our ancestors and the future generation will have no sense of belonging and direction. Thus for this 50 years of independence is time to reflect and value our rich Zambian culture…food, medicine, songs, dances, art work, our traditions… By Bricklayer
