THEY GATHERED TO HIM – 1 SAMUEL 22:1 – 10 And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.(v.2 NKJV) It is very common to mankind to seek help from person(s) considered powerful enough (may be financially or physically) to be the succor in the time of trouble; but I do tell people that except the LORD helps that person you have considered powerful, you may eventually be disappointed. Do also note the LORD’S warning and counsel about putting one’s trust in the flesh - Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.(Jeremiah 17:5 NKJV). King Saul had suddenly been pushed by an evil spirit to seek after David’s life (not only David but all who followed him). David’s extended family members and their trustees knew they were no longer safe in the house of Jesse, so they went to be with David and his men; everyone of them who was in debt, in trouble and bitter in the spirit; but friend, the help they needed was not in David but in the GOD that David had trusted in. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! (Psalm 34:8 NKJV). There is a friend in Jesus Christ - He calls on every one who is thirsty, hungry, weak, disappointed, in debt, in trouble - Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 NKJV)- to Him alone shall every one and in whatever situation be gathered to, because rest is sure in Him. Did you read how David had to run to other kings around for help before the LORD granted his enemies into his hands? In humility, submit yourself to GOD by faith in Jesus Christ and commit all the burden in your heart to Him without fear or doubt. May the LORD grant you comfort, peace and joy as you submit all to Him now through Jesus Christ!
