THIS DATE IN MUSIC HISTORY (January 4th): 1936: The first Billboard pop music chart appeared -- Joe Venuti (a big band violinist) was the first #1 1965: CBS bought the Fender guitar company for $13 million 1967: The Doors was released by Doors 1970: Keith Moon accidentally ran over, and killed Neil Boland (a chauffeur), as Moon was trying to escape from a gang of skinheads following a fight at a pub in Hatfield, England (Moon had never passed a driving test) 1970: The final studio session for The Beatles (John Lennon was absent) -- they re-did vocals and a new guitar solo on Let It Be at EMI Studios in London (all four were last in a studio on 08-20-69) 1986: Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy, bass and vocals) died after a drug overdose -- he had been in a coma for eight days 2010: Gerry Rafferty (Stealers Wheel) died at age 63
