THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... Jan. 25 1873-Four inches of snow fell at Little Rock, with 6.5 inches of snow at Mount Ida, and eight inches at Helena. 1894-The low temperature fell to -16 at Rogers. 1897-Floating ice was seen in the White River in Marion County, and this lasted through the 29th. 1950-The high temperature rose to 87 at Searcy, and most high temperatures were in the mid 70s to mid 80s. 1978-Three to five inches of snow fell in the north half of the state. 1979-One to four inches of snow fell in north and central sections. 1986-A major traffic pileup occurred on I-55 near Marion in localized dense fog. Jan. 26 1878-A tornado touched down in Hempstead County. 1894-The temperature fell to -10 at Rogers. 1897-Highs were mostly in the teens and 20s, except for 9 at Rogers. 1943-A general one to three inch snowfall was seen in much of the state. However, as much as four to five inches fell in northeast Arkansas. 1950-An Arctic front ended a heat wave. Temperatures were in the 30s in the north and in the 70s and 80s elsewhere. The high temperature at Harrison was 35, while Nashville and Camden reached 84. 2009-An ice storm began in Northern Arkansas, which resulted in widespread damage, power outages, and 3 deaths. Jan. 27 1897-Bitter cold set up in the state, with -2 at Silver Spring (Benton County). Most temperatures were in the single digits. 1957-A significant ice storm hit the northeast. 1975-The temperature reached 80 at Little Rock, and most highs were in the 70s to near 80 through the 29th. 2000-Heavy snow occurred across the state with the heaviest in south central sections. Little Rock got 7.5 inches into the 28th and some areas in south central got over 10 inches with damage to many chicken houses. 15.0 inches fell at Arkadelphia.
