THIS IS A GENERAL CALL FOR A RALLY FROM KARUNAMAYEE MORE TO BIKASH BHAVAN, 2:30 PM TODAY It has been over 80 HOURS since the 12 members of the general student body of Jadavpur University started their Hunger Strike demanding the VCs resignation, the reconstruction of the ICC, the fair investigation into the incidents of August 28th and September 17th, a definite end to the campus surveillance, while condemning the myriad instances police brutality in educational institutions (such as in Jadavpur in 2005, 2010 and 2014). Everyone who has been following this movement from its very beginning can bear testament to the open and honest way in which we have been carrying out our struggle. We have attempted, at all times, to be as faithful as possible to the principles of justice and equality before the law. Yet, in a despicable and underhanded attempt at psychological intimidation, the Authorities at JU have seen fit to send false communications to the parents of the students in order to pressurize them into stopping their wards from continuing the fast! Police visited the houses of some of the students, and their families were told that what their wards were doing is illegal, and that there would be consequences later on. Our valiant students remained resolute in the face of such oppression, and have not broken their fast. Finally, after almost 4 months of the students struggle, the Education Minister has expressed his wish to meet the students to discuss what possible solutions can be implemented in order to address our demands. It has been decided that the students who have been fasting will meet him as the representatives of the General Student body of Jadavpur University. This is a call not only to every person related to Jadavpur University, but a larger call for every individual who has supported our movement since the beginning. This is a call for everyone who stands for the principles of democracy and justice. We ask all of you to stand by us, as you have stood by us so many times before, as we raise our voice once more.
