THIS IS A MUST READ! COME IN SUCKER: SEENEY AND NEWMAN GO ALL THE WAY IN LATEST BOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER Why is the Queensland LNP government giving an Indian billionaire another $1 billion of our money to build a railway that he will actually own ? Clive Palmer - for all his failings - was prepared to build his mine and railway at his own cost and pay coal royalties as well. Campbell Newman thinks that we should be doing this to assist the poor in India to get electricity - but Adani is NOT giving it to the poor in India!! Adani realizes that Newman is so gullible that he will believe anything. And Adani is not even a miner and never was. Hes an electricity retailer! NOW READ ON... While the Queensland State Election is now tipped to be as early as 21 February, nobody really knows until the Premier, Campbell Newman, returns home from holidays. He has been in India, you understand, where he has been visiting his good friend Gautam Adani, catching up on cricket, coal and a few hot vindaloo curries. That’s what you do with mates over Christmas, after all. But it seems that Gautam Adani is better than your average mate to Mr Newman – especially if the deal that the taxpayers of Queensland have been forced to give him is any indication. So the next time you find yourself wondering why your roads are full of pot holes and there are no new schools, hospitals, universities, roads, railways – well, here’s a clue. • Queensland taxpayers are providing $2.5 billion for the rail and port infrastructure. • At the end of it, Adani will own the railway line. • There will be no freight royalties for Adani to use a railway line that has been built by Queensland taxpayers. • Adani wants a lesser standard of 457 Visa for Indian and overseas works to reduce his wage outlay (CLEARLY, THERE WILL BE VERY FEW JOBS FOR QUEENSLANDERS IN THIS DEAL) • The question that Queenslanders need to have answered is will there be a special royalty-free period? • It appears that Adani will pay the Queensland Government AFTER he sells the electricity in India. All this for a company that is already billions in debt – and a company that the banks don’t want to touch. So when will Mr Newman and Mr Seeney tell the Queensland people exactly how much money the state will make from this deal – and when they will actually see any return? CLEARLY, THIS IS A MATTER OF SERIOUS CONCERN TO EVERY QUEENSLANDER. We have asked Dr Alex Douglas, (Independent MP for Gaven) to comment (below) on his thoughts on the special deal being provided for Mr Adani by Premier Newman and Deputy Premier Seeney Dr Douglas was the former Chairman of the Ethics Committee for the Incoming Newman Government until Premier Newman suddenly announced his “resignation” to the media. Dr Douglas was investigating a sensitive matter regarding LNP political figures at the time. DR ALEX DOUGLAS: ...Qld has an enviable history on the world stage about how to build a globally competitive cluster of internationally competitive coal mines. In a 130 year history, there have been many firsts. It has not always been a win-win situation for companies and governments but Qld got better at it over time. The Utah developments in Central Qld in the late 1960s /1970s set new benchmarks in how to do build , operate and export coal in a big way. Great standard gauge railways linked to ports were built by the miners and ownership was handed over to the state. There were great towns built with very little Fly In Fly Out workforce. Very quickly, Qld boomed and the partner companies were very profitable, too. BHP now owns the majority of these mines – and the local communities are sick. 100% FIFO is the demand now from BHP and others and residents from those mining towns nearest the mines cant get jobs at these mines. The BHPs of this world could have built these great open-cut mines originally but they demanded exactly what Gautam Adani has been offered in his development of the Carmichael mine, north of Alpha in Central Qld. What did BHP and others want but the Qld State government correctly refused to do ? They were not wanting to build towns, communities near the mines and developing sustainable mining developments. They wanted 100% FIFO (and got it) and the volatility of employment that goes with it. Adani wants all that and more. He wants a lesser standard of 457 visa Indian or OS workers to reduce his wage outlays. Adani wants - and is getting - a $2.5 billion rail line capable of handling new era 200 ton coal wagons in 3-4 km rail sets. He will own this railway and freight royalties dont apply to his mine. Furthermore, he wants Qld to provide the equity grant to support a loan for the rail and port infrastructure. Jeff Seeney initially stated that it would be no more than a few hundred million dollars but he says now that the state contribution will be capped at $1 billion but Its a great deal for Qld. It appears that this mine will pay its way only as it sells the electricity back in India. This is the ultimate in leverage by Adani but also very risky for Qld. Its like going to the Casino and putting all your money on zero, expecting to win. Fools and their money are easily parted. Gautam Adani saw Campbell Newman coming and he thought all his Christmases had come at once.... abc.net.au/radionational/programs/backgroundbriefing/2014-03-09/5300560 The Abbot Point gamble abc.net.au
