THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND HUMBLING FB POSTS I HAVE EVER HAD TO POST. Any Krav Maga instructor - regardless of Associations or bull shit politics - will agree what we teach is an extremely tough job and stressful at that. BECAUSE we are teaching people to defend themselves in real life situations and sometime life threatening too. If we are sloppy or negligent and a student get hurt or even killed because we have not prepared them to the very best of our ability and taken our role seriously it is on our conscience and something I personally would never forgive myself for - hence why I am hard but fair and push my student to be the very best they can be. MY POINT BEING last night a student, my first I took from D1 (P1) to D5 (P5) told me the follow shocking story of his daughter being attacked and like any good father over the years he had tried to pass on the knowledge I had shared with him through his training - like all teenage girls they never listen but it does sink in and this training saved her from a very very serious assault. Take note of the use of semi-passive stance to create distance, try to calm situation and make very clear to all around that she was not he aggressor and secondly the use of a natural defence and thirdly the use of aggressive counters once the situation escalated. I was leaving a nightclub when all of a sudden a drunken girl who had been a nuisance all night suddenly march up to me asking if I had a problem, I put my hands up and backed off saying I have no problem. Then suddenly she pulled my hair hard and fell on top of me I am only 9 stone and she was a big girl, she then started hitting me in the face, I put my hands to my face to protect myself and then I struck the girl with my elbow causing her to stop and also there was now a lot of blood coming from the girls nose, the club bouncers came over and took me into a room as I was very shaken never been in a confrontation before, they called the police and when they reviewed the CCTV they said that they could see that I was backing away with my hands up in what I now no to be semi passive, the other girl was arrested and I was told that she also had a broken nose, my dad is always showing me Krav Maga and I tell him Im not a fighter so I dont need to know this stuff but I guess I must have listened because the moment I was on the floor I heard my dads voice saying elbow it was really strange, thanks dad Today I am a very relieved but proud instructor.
