THIS JONATHAN WE KNOW MUST FAIL Insecurity: Youths Give Sambo Ultimatum By Midat Joseph Hundreds of Northern youths under the auspices of Northern Anti-Corruption Front (NAF) yesterday gave Vice President Namadi Sambo 14 days ultimatum to kick-start the process of ending the insurgency in the region or risk being declared as an enemy of the North. The youths at a media briefing in Kaduna, also said they have lost confidence in Vice President Sambo due to his inability to rally the people of the north towards ending the insecurity in the region. The group, which gave example of how President Goodluck Jonathan led the discussion that ended the Niger-Delta militancy during the administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, said it was disheartening that a vice president in the person of Sambo could not lead discussions in the North-East that would end the Boko Haram insurgency. The leader of the group, Comrade Yusuf Yusuf, who spoke to the journalists on behalf of his group, said “the weight of political power in Northern Nigeria rests on the shoulders of Namadi Sambo who holds the highest political office in the region.” He added, “A critical examination of the antecedents of the vice president reveals a leader who is out of touch with the reality of his region and who has deliberately distanced himself from the plight of the people.” “As the most senior political office holder in the north, the vice president has not made any effort towards addressing the spate of insurgency and other forms of crises ravaging the north.” “We are convinced beyond doubt that the Vice President has become blind to the systematic genocide and economic destruction taking place in northern Nigeria, particularly his adopt end State, Kaduna,” the youths said. Stressing further, the youth added my that “at the peak of the militancy in niger-delta, President Jonathan when was Vice President then, mobilized his people and persuaded the militants to accepting the federal government’s amnesty programme, but story is different in the case of Vice President Sambo, he has shown he lacks the progressive drive and leadership abilities that will enable him surmount the challenges of the north.” To this end, the youths said “it is against this backdrop that we declare our loss of confidence in the leadership of the Vice President. We give him 14-day ultimatum to kick start a realistic peace resolution process involving elders, youth leaders, political leaders and all relevant stakeholders towards finding a lasting solution to the region problems.” According to them, “failure to do so after the 14-day ultimatum shall lead us with no option than to declare him as the number one enemy of the north.”
