THIS ONE IS A BIG ONE. NEITHER JOHN, CONNOR NOR I KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS HOW HONORED WE ARE BY PETER AND HOW HE CHOSE TO SCATTER CJ. BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES. Good day Hallie Exactly 6 months ago I received CJ here in Aljezur, Southwestern Portugal. My first intentions were, like most did at other around the world, to scatter CJ at one of the so beautiful beaches along our coast. With a very stormy winter, bad weather and a sometimes not accessible coast, I had to delay my plans many times. One day, while having CJ with me and looking at the waves, I came up with an idea, that I hope finds your approval. Having served and owning a small surf shop here in Aljezur, I decided to honor CJ and the cause in a different way. I had my friend and surfboard shaper João design a surfboard with the intention of placing CJs ashes inside. Reading many of your posts on Facebook and imagining CJ being a fun guy to be with, adventures and always wanting to see the world, I found that it would be a good way to honor him. Yesterday evening, after many working steps and talks with João, the board was brought to me and I hope you like and approve it. Most important for you to know, the board has not been touched, used, or seen by anyone else. The decision what happens with the honor board is entirely up to you! First, the board is shaped and designed for easy and fun surfing. It is a 64 short which would only be surfed by experienced surfers/friends if you give the permission. We decided to place his name, the insignia of the rank he held, a color line in red/blue (he was a big Red Sox fan) on and his ashes inside the board. This all, or parts, can be changed according to your wishes. (Attached I send you some images of the steps done.) My thinking was to have CJ taken out once into the Atlantic here and have a friend of mine surf the board one good and long wave. I have kept a small amount of his ashes to go along and be washed into the sea. After, he would have his place here with me and meet travelers and surfers from around the world. As I wrote, this only when you are ok with it. In hope of your approval Kind regards Peter Aljezur, Portugal
