THIS STORY IS AN ADAPTION FROM THE BHAGWAT PURANA I HAVE SHORTENED IT THUS OMITTING MANY THINGS PLEASE FORGIVE ME AVIJANATE [UNKNOWN ONE] On a journey went king Puranjan and Avijanate his friend When they reached a bend The road in two directions did part Which way is best a discussion did start They stood at a good height Left to a beautiful castle, to a dense forest the right The castle was a beautiful sight Floated to their ears sounds of music and delight Dancing maidens from a height could be seen Beautiful sculpture, gardens created a beautiful scene On the right path at a distance a jungle did loom Roaring of wild animals, darkness and gloom The friend to go to the jungle did suggest Do no bad, just meditate, this option is the best But for the castle the king was vehement Where there was luxury, girls and enjoyment Well habitually a king Always for a fun filled life is looking For hours the argument did abate Resulting in a stalemate Ultimately a compromise did they make Trip to the castle the king alone would take On his friend on whom he had utmost trust Responsibility of the kingdom he thrust Take good care of my kingdom and treasure While at the castle I spend a few days of leisure Thus saying did they part King Puranjan for the castle did start Gleefully at the castle gate did he arrive Shock he got when he saw guarding was a giant snake alive To find a way he ran around Nine gates the castle had he found Whichever gate he stood Speed of lightening to protect come the snake would Scared he hid in the bushes jumping back When king Yavanraj’s demon army launched an attack Valiantly the huge snake fought And single handedly defeated the lot All nine gates the snake alone did defend And won the battle in the end King Puranjan mastered his fear To challenge, he came snake near Alert the snake coiled ready to strike When what he sensed of the king did he like The snake saw he was a person good Moved aside so that enter in the castle he could The king went in thanking that he did not have to fight Entering he was greeted by a most heavenly sight Five most beautiful gardens which match only Eden could In the midst an enchanting princess with maids stood Her beauty any heart would melt Obviously love struck even the king felt In full youth the princess was in search of a worthy mate The king approached to try his fate One look And the king her heart took Picking the flower garland that her maids carried She garlanded the king and got married A hundred long years did pass Not once the king thought of his friend alas With every passing day fonder of the princess he grew Never realized how time flew He would kiss her hand and her feet Laughed when she laughed, ate when she would eat At her call and tune would he dance Of complaint never gave her a chance But of his new kingdom he took good care His subjects were most happy with him there Suddenly one day did he realize Whole day in arms of a princess a king never lies Meanwhile of the castle the snake took good care No enemy could come near For a hunt he decided to leave Insecure the princess started to grieve He said ‘’only in leisure a kshatriya can not divulge In some manly sport he has to indulge Do not worry my dear I will be back I swear’’ Off to the hunt on his chariot he went Into deer, lions, wolves his arrows he sent And hanging the carcasses on his chariot’s side He rode back swelling with pride A fearful princess Kal kanya was on the prowl Ugly, scary looking and smelled foul Was looking for a husband to wed When she saw Puranjan who his group led To the good looking her heart she lost With a proposal him did she accost Laughing insultingly the king asked her to go away ‘’Marry a creep like you’’ he said ‘’No way’’ Back to the castle he went While fuming Kalkanya on revenge was bent His dear queen did Puranjan happily meet While happy all his subjects were at his feet While during all the passing year The snake never let any enemy near Relentlessly Yavanraj and his demons did fight But could not match the snakes might Kalkanya now to avenge her insult Joined hands with Yavanraj as a result ‘’Together let my cunning and your army meet Once aligned Puranjan’s snake we will defeat’’ Of the weakness of the snake she told As now the snake had become weak and old With a new strategy and vigor the demons did attack Kalkanya with a few soldiers slipped from the back Fiercely fought the snake brave But old age of his strength did deprave Chance when the demons did find Killed him from behind Once the snake was slain The demons rushed through the gates main Creating a bloodbath Killing all that came in their path Destroyed all buildings and beautiful gardens five And captured the king and queen alive Dragged behind horses, rope around their neck tied While the king , queen for each other cried While kicked and spat at him all the subjects of his land Good he was to them, why so he could not understand They say whatever last moment is on your mind Thus a rebirth you find King Puranjan at the end of his life Had worried only for his wife So a female body did he adorn As king of Vidharba’s daughter was he born On maturity king Malaydhwaj accepted her as his wife And both led a pious dutiful life Come old age taking sanyasa to the forest they went Many austerities and severe meditation they underwent His wife dutifully served him day and night At last Malaydhwaj saw enlight All feelings of duality did he win One with God he became soul within Beyond effects of wind or rain Aloof from all pleasure and pain Affected him neither heat or cold Over hunger and thirst he got hold Feeling of happiness and disappointment did he defeat And purifying his soul with God did he meet Established in heavenly bliss he gave up his life Leaving alone in the dense forest his wife She screamed she cried ‘O’ alone I am my husband has died A saint who was passing by heard her cry Asked why Why cry, why do you mourn Oh she said my husband has departed leaving me alone Your husband has attained peace And with many wise words he put her at ease And then asked ‘’Do you not remember your past life You were king Puranjan and Malaydhwaj was your wife To take care of your kingdom Avijanate your friend you sent To the snake protected, nine gated, five garden castle you went A princess you married For a hunt against her wishes you carried With rejection and insults Kalkanya’s proposal did you meet Aligning with Yavanraj you did she defeat You and your wife both were killed And as for each the last moment you both willed You were reborn As Malaydhwaj and Puranjan bodies did you adorn ‘’Yes’’ she said ‘’memory is back all is visible plain But O saint what occurred please explain The saint meditated for a while And started to explain with a smile You Puranjan an [Atma] soul with your friend Stood where the road two way did bend One to the dense forest which scared you away Where karm-less you would just meditate and pray But the nine door castle did you select Actually you a soul a nine entrance body did select The snake that guarded, was the body’s brain That protected from sickness, enemies or any situation vain But when the brain grew old No more strongly the body control it could hold The princess was the heart The maids were veins that were spread in every part The five beautiful gardens there Were senses taste, touch, smell, seeing and ears to hear Many years this body you enjoyed indeed And then by hunting innocents you soiled your [karama] deed Then Kalkanya did you meet Kaal[death] with Yavanraj [Yamraj] you died at whose feet ‘’Took good care of my subjects I was a well loved king Then why people kicked me and were spitting’’ ‘’Karma you did during the hunt’’ the saint replied ‘’Many innocent animals to satisfy your ego died As at he last moment you thought of your wife So you were born as a woman in your next life With good deeds [moksha] salvation did she earn Now be brave it is your turn Puranjan hearing all was, in bliss and now wise Suddenly did he realize All and that I am Puranjan the soul is clear But where is Avijanate My friend dear The saint looked at him in surprise I am Avijanate your friend do you not recognize You lusting for bodily pleasures me did leave Now I am back, you to receive You are Puranjan the [soul] atma Your closest friend I am Paramatma Like · · Unfollow Post · May 19 at 6:22pm Seen by 35 Opti
