THIS THURSDAY NIGHT I’ll be ‘sleeping rough’ to help raise money for St Vincent de Paul, as part of their annual ‘CEO Sleep out’ event. Will you help Brisbane’s poor and homeless this winter, by giving to Vinnies? There are more than 100,000 Australians who find themselves homeless each night of the year. Just under half of these are women; a quarter are under the age of 18. This is the third year I’ve participated in the Vinnies Sleep Out, so of course I know what I’m in for… I know this experience isn’t really just like being homeless - that I will have a sleeping bag, that I’m in no danger of being assaulted, and that I’ve got a family, a home and a job to go back to when I get up in the morning. I know that I’m not doing the ‘real deal’ living the life of a homeless person. Few would voluntarily sign up for that. But I am doing something.
