THIS WAS WHAT I WROTE AFTER THE MALID IN PRANG 38th Maulid in Prang The Maulid of Abu Abass Maulana Sheikh Ahmad Tijani was held at Prang in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. The commemoration was initiated by Sheik Abdallah Ahmad Maikano Jallo, a no doubt champion of the cause of the Tariqat at Tijania in the country. The 38th anniversary saw as usual an increase in attendance to show appreciation to the Head of the Tijania Sufi Order, Ahmad Tijani, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. The Grand Khalifa, Abul Faili Abdallah Maikano led all prayers and supplications for the crowed some of them came from neighboring countries. The Sunday Subhi prayer was led by Alhaji Ibrahim Niasse, a younger brother of the Khalifa Abul Faili showing the unity of the family which also gave color to the occasion. The security did not find it easy controlling the hundreds of people struggling to catch a glimpse of Khalifa Akbar Abul Fail. The press even though had their accreditations did not also find it easy, especially the electronics who wanted to capture the best for their various media houses. Friday Hailala was at its best as usual as everybody participated and sang in chorus and unison of Laillaha illa llah among other litanies of the Tariqah. On Saturday evening, Dagombas from the Northern Region took the centre stage to exhibit the rich Dagbon culture, both in dresses and in dancing. Damba and Gonje dominated the scene until the Magrib prayer was called. Kalamu Faila, Imam Ali Ibn Abdallah Maikano represented Khalifa Akbar to grace the occasion. Baba Jallo fought tooth and nail with leaders of the Munkiri Sect, led by Afa Ajura Yussif in Dagbon who did not want to see the Tariqah thrive in the area. I was then an Islamic pupil of Ambariya School set up by the late of Afa Ajura. The greater challenge for followers of Jallo Baba,in my view is to expand the mosque to accommodate the crowd. In the interim there is the need to erect a pavilion at the northern part of the mosque whiles planning to build the proposed complex mosque as envisage by the committee By Zakaria Abdul Kadiri, TV3 Northern Region correspondent
