Thanks, Bill CONNOLLYS CORNER - This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. The word Pentecost comes from the Greek work pentekostos, meaning fiftieth, which was one of the most important feasts in the Jewish worship calendar. This Festival of the Harvest was 50 days after the Passover and for Christians, we celebrate Pentecost, which is 50 days after Easter. This was the day the Holy Spirit came in power, gave the gift of new life to a very fearful and defeated group of disciples, and established the church as the Body of Christ in the world. So we continue to celebrate the Birthday of the Church each year as a Red Letter Day, hence the reason we ask that all wear red on this Sunday to celebrate the flames of faith and the continuing empowering, indwelling fire of the Holy Spirit in our lives today. Our scripture text for Sunday will be selected verses from Acts, Chapter 2 and well make reference to the connections this passage has with Genesis, Chapter 11 - the story of the Tower of Babel. Pray we shall all remain - In Christs Love and Service Together! Bill CONCERT - On Sunday, July 27, 4P, a concert will be held in the sanctuary at Bethel honoring Sandra Helms. Solo pieces will showcase the Gabriel Kney pipe organ, the Roland digital piano, and several choral pieces (choirs choice) will be performed. A reception will follow. A SPIRIT-FILLED CHURCH - Ronald Hooker, Columbus, Ohio The power of God breathing life into us has been true from the beginning of time. Sunday worship services in which I participate give the opportunity to feel Gods breath. The service comes to life as the organist opens with a resounding prelude followed by the congregation raising their voices in praise. The pastor begins with responsive readings as I prepare to hear Gods word. Nothing can replace an inspiring sermon or anthem. I love participating in worship as I feel the Spirit of God alive in me and in the congregation. President Woodrow Wilson, a lifelong Presbyterian, once said: I live my life from one Sunday morning worship service to the next. Gods Spirit fills our worship with Gods presence. During the season of Pentecost, become fully immersed in all aspects of the Sunday worship hour. Lord, may our breath, experienced at Sunday worship, sustain me throughout my entire week. Amen. REMINDERS - Sunday, June 28 - Soup Kitchen - First Presbyterian, Memphis Sunday, July 13 - Choir Appreciation Sunday / Stump the Organist Peace and blessings, Dave
