As with all New Moons, the creative force of the Sun aligns with the immanent emotional and soul energy of the Moon to initiate movement through life. This New Moon is in the sign of Cancer, which in Astrological terms is the Cardinal Water sign. There are four Cardinal signs, one for each element of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Every New Moon in Cancer puts a little extra push into our desire to have an enjoyable summer, because this time of year the Moon is joined by the Sun in its own sign, Cancer, the sign that it rules. This particular New Moon in Cancer is accompanied by Mercury, as Mercury and the Sun have an Inferior Conjunction, within a day following the New Moon. The planet Mercury represents the intellect and rational mind. It is moving retrograde, or appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac, as it aligns with the Sun. This adds a fresh stage of self awareness to our summer initiatives. Also, accompanying this New Moon is the Venus in Leo trine Uranus in Aries aspect, which is exact the day before the New Moon. This indicates that we are encouraged to take action towards creating greater personal freedom and independence in our lives. The components of this New Moon suggest that this week we will experience a strong impulse to act upon our improved understanding of ourselves with action that carries the intention to create greater freedom, happiness, and adventure in our lives.
