THIS YEARS SDCC PUBLISHER ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from Dark Horse: Fight Club is going for a second round with a new sequel comic series penned by the original novels author, Chuck Palahniuk, and featuring interior artwork by Cameron Stewart! USA Today reports that the new ten-issue series will examine the life of the unnamed narrator ten years after the events in the novel. The first issue is slated to go on sale in April of 2015. In addition to the announced Fight Club 2, Dark Horse is packing 2015 with eleven more original creator-owned series! The new comics slated for next year include: Colder: The Bad Seed (featuring writing by Paul Tobin and interior artwork by Juan Ferreyra), Hellboy and the B.R.P.D. (featuring writing by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi and interior artwork by Alexander Maleev), Lady Killer (featuring writing by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich and interior artwork by Jones), Dead Vengeance (featuring writing by Bill Morrison and interior artwork by Stéphane Roux), EI8HT (from creators Rafael Albuquerque and Mike Johnson), Neverboy (featuring writing by Shaun Simon, interior artwork by Tyler Jenkins, and coloring by Kelly Fitzpatrick), The Black Hammer (featuring writing by Jeff Lemire and interior artwork by Dean Ormston), PastAways (featuring writing by Matt Kindt and interior artwork by Scott Kolins), Rebels, (featuring writing by Brian Wood, interior artwork by Andrea Mutti, coloring by Jodie Bellaire, and cover artwork by Tula Lotay), Harrow Country (featuring writing by Cullen Bunn and interior artwork by Tyler Crook), and Alabaster: The Good, the Bad, and the Bird (featuring writing by Caitlín R. Kiernan and interior artwork by Joëlle Jones). The full list of contributors to the artbook, The Sakai Project: Thirty Years of Usagi Yojimbo has been announced! This deluxe hardcover book collects artwork that celebrates Stan Sakais long-running series, and proceeds from the book will be donated to the comic creator and his wife, Sharon, to help alleviate the costs of recent medical emergencies. He’s been linked to a variety of comic-based roles like Lobo, Darkseid and Black Adam, but according to a recent chat with Total Film, it sounds like he’s very close to making an announcement about a DC Comics film project. DC showed off some of the upcoming additions to the DC Collectibles line, including a few of the new Batman the Animated series action figures. See them and more at CBR. DC and Warner Bros. have revealed more pics of Ben Affleck as the caped crusader. Vertigo announced in the Vertigo Defy Panel, Bill Benis spoke of a new November book for Vertigo, The Kitchen. Set in the 70′s and the reference is to Hell’s Kitchen with a high concept dealing with the wives of Irish Gangsters. ---------------------------------- Announcements from IDW: IDW is partnering with Comics Experience, LLC to publish a new line of creator-owned comics by up-and-coming comic professionals! Comics Experience has posted some initial information about the new titles which include: Drones by Chris Lewis and Bruno Oliveira, Creature Cops: Special VarmintUnit by Rob Anderson and Fernando Melek, Gutter Magic by Rich Douek and Brett Barkley, and Tet by Paul Allor and Paul Tucker. IDW and Humble Bundle, under license from Hasbro, are celebrating SDCC with the Transformers Humble Bundle! Fans can pay-what-they-want and receive up to 100 Transformers comics and help support the Hasbro Childrens Fund charity while doing so! Transformers Humble Bundle donors can pay what they want for Transformers Classic, Volumes 1-4 (featuring 48 issues from the original comic), and donors who pay above the average price will also receive Transformers: All Hail Megatron, Volumes 1-4, Transformers: Autocracy and Transformers: Spotlight, Volume 1. The company is aiming to release one sequel to an existing franchise and one film driven by a new character each year for the next fiver years. Marvel revealed Ant-Man concept art that will be made available to the tens of thousands of fans flocking to San Diego. ---------------------------------- Annoucements From Avatar Press: Max Brooks (World War Z, Extinction Parade) and William Christensen lead the Avatar panel. Alan Moore and Jason Burrows‘s Providence will be out mid 2015. A twelve issue series, the book will expand on his previous Neonomicon work for Avatar, interweaving Lovecraftian mythos with our reality. Garth Ennis Caliban will be a 7 issue mini series collected early next year. And new talent Max Bemis will be doing his first Avatar book which will be a Crossed arc. ---------------------------------- Announcements from Dynamite Entertainment: Dynamite Entertainment has acquired the rights to one of Will Esiners most famous comic series, The Spirit, courtesy of a licensing agreement made with the Eisner estate. The hero will make his triumphant return in an all-new series, but the company has yet to announce any further details about the creative team helming this project or a projected release date. Comic Book Resources reports that Cullen Bunn will be handling writing duties for Masks II, a sequel to the 2012 mini-series penned by Chris Roberson. The first series saw several of the most iconic pulp-fiction heroes banding together to battle injustice, and the new series is slated for release later this year. ---------------------------------- Announcements from Papercutz: CBR has the exclusive cover reveal of WWE Superstars #11, a nod to the classic Secret Wars #8 cover, this penultimate issue in the new era-spanning story arc is set to change everything in the WWE Superstars comic cannon. ---------------------------------- Announcements from Titan: Titan Comics announced a new slate of creator-owned projects at Thursdays SDCC Diamond Retailer Presentation. The new titles will see publication in early 2015, and include alien planet adventure Thunder Hunter by Mark A. Nelson; teenage horror Gravestown by Roger Gibson and Vince Danks, which is described as a twisted The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe; environmental horror Surface Tension by Jay Gunn; manga-infused police thriller Man Plus by André Lima Araújo; turn of the century adventure Adler: Woman of Mystery by Lavie Tidhar and Paul McCaffrey, featuring Sherlock Holmes femme fatale Irene Adler, and spy actioner Scarlett Couture by Des Taylor. Other Announcements: Sam Raimi was at SDCC with Neil Druckmann, creator of the Naughty Dog game The Last Of Us, to talk about how that PlayStation 3 survival The-Last-of-Ushorror action game is being turned into a feature with Raimi producing and Druckmann now writing the screenplay. Screen Gems President Clint Culpepper, whose previous big vidgame-to-movie transfer was Resident Evil, basically has given over big creative controls to Druckmann in the movie transfer. That includes casting, and choice of director. Raimi also surprised the audience by revealing he’s writing an Evil Dead television show with Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert and his brother Ivan Raimi.
