THIS is both funny and not at the same time. An illuminating conversation about student debt topping $1 trillion, a shameful development for a country that says it values education and parades the quality of its universities compared to the rest of the world. Parts of the problem: the roll back of public financial support to higher education -- i.e. states dont spend the money needed to educate its citizens, leaving them to take on backbreaking financial loads before they even enter the job market; a generation of parents who havent put aside enough for their childrens education and (ready for a surprise) a government that structures higher education loan programs to meet the needs of bankers not students. These reasons are unacceptable and (before November) YOU SHOULD ASK your elected representatives what they will do to fix this problem. Thank you Mr. Oliver for putting this center stage.
