THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A white cobra that was on the loose last summer in Thousand Oaks and is now on display at the San Diego Zoo was finally given a name Friday, zoo officials said. The public took to an online poll on the zoo’s website and chose the name Adhira for the female white monocled cobra. It is a Hindu-derived name which means lightning. The name received 11.5 percent of the 4,612 votes on the zoo’s website. The cobra’s keepers chose a list of words and names native to Southeast Asia from which voters could decide. Other names included Sapheda which means white, Krima which means cream, Cini which means sugar, Moti which means pearl and Sundara which means beautiful, zoo officials said.
