THREE EASTERN DISTRICTS IN HIGH ALERT POSITION AFTER LANDSLIDE BLOCKS SUNKOSHI RIVER The local administration of Kavre district has asked the local people to remain in high alert position in eight VDCs of Kavre district around the Sunkoshi River bank. Locals in Dolalghat area have already been shifted to the safer areas, said Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kavre, Kedar Neupane. Similarly, the local administration of Sunsari, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Khotang, Okhaldnuna, Saptari and Udayapur have asked all people on the river banks to remain in high alert after a dreadful landslide at Jure of Sindhupalchowk district blocked the Sunkoshi River dam early this morning. Sunkoshi is a tributary of Saptakoshi river. Eastern Regional Administrator, Mahashram Sharma, said the Security Committee meetings held this morning decided to keep the people alert along the river banks for their safety from the possible flood. He said that the affected would be informed from media and take initiatives to shift them to the safer sites. WE ARE CONSCIOUS FOR EASY PASSAGE OF WATER: ENGINEER OF BIHARS KOSHI PLAN Amid possible threats of flooding in Saptakoshi river after the passage of blocked water Sunkoshi river, Chief Engineer Rajesh Kumar of Indias Koshi Plan in Bihar said that they were fully alert about it. He said that it takes 10 hours to reach the blocked water in Koshi barrage after joining into the Saptakoshi river and the arrangements will be made safely for the water to run off. He said that required technicians have been deployed for the same in different sites. Currently, 18 spurs have been opened in Koshi barrage and an order has been issued to open all 56 spurs during the time of risk. At present, there is 132,000 cusec water in the Koshi barrage while it has the total capacity of 900,000 cusec. INDIAN PM ARRIVING SUNDAY Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving Kathmandu tomorrow at 10:00 am on a two-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala. According to MoFA, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will welcome his Indian counterpart Narednra Modi at the VVIP lounge of the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. In the afternoon, Nepali and Indian PMs will meet each other at the PM’s office at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu that follows the PM level bilateral talks. Similarly, Indian PM Modi will address the Legislature-Parliament tomorrow itself and attend the dinner hosted by his Nepali counterpart, PM Sushil Koirala. On his second day of visit on Monday, August 4, Indian PM Modi will perform a special pooja (ritual) at Pashupatinath temple at Gaushala. Following the pooja, Indian PM Modi will call on the President of Nepal, Dr Ram Baran Yadav, at the presidential residence at Shital Niwas. In the afternoon, Indian PM Modi will meet the top political leaders of Nepal. In the evening, Indian PM Modi will return to New Delhi completing his two-day official bilateral visit to Nepal, said Monistry of Forein Affairs. Meanwhile, the government says all necessary preparations including security arrangements have been completed for making the Indian Prime Minister Modis visit successful. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed the confidence that the visit by the Indian Prime Minister after 17 years will further help strengthen the traditional, close and cordial ties subsisting between Nepal and India and also enhance bilateral cooperation. The Indian Prime Ministers delegation would comprise 70 to 75 officials and as many as 25 to 27 senior officials from both countries will participate in the bilateral talks. The Indian delegation includes the national Security Advisor and the Secretaries and Joint Secretaries of different ministries. RESCUE TASKS WEAKER: UCPN (Maoist) The UCPN (Maoist) has said that the governments rescue task to the Sunkosi/Bhotekosi inundated site is not satisfactory. At a press meet organized at the party headquarters Koteshwor today, party spokesman Dina Nath Sharma urged the government to immediately rescue and release the relief materials to the victims of landslide and inundation. Speaking on a different note, leader Sharma said that the upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister would open a new dimension in the bilateral relations and Nepal should take maximum benefit from his visit. He further said that power trade agreement (PTA) is necessary for economic prosperity of the nation and the issues of project development agreement (PDA) should be prepared by forging national consensus. BPS THOUGHT STILL CONTEXTUAL: NC VICE PRESIDENT PAUDEL Vice-president of Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Paudel has said nationalism, democracy and socialism advocated by BP Koirala are still contextual. Speaking at an interaction programme in the capital today, NC Vice-president Paudel said BP Koirala had given priority in the activities such as increasing national production and self-reliance of rural people. Similarly, addressing another programme in Lalitpur today, leader Poudel stressed on the need unity within the party to draft a federal democratic constitution. He further said now the responsibility of safeguarding democracy with promoting BPs ideologies has come upon the shoulder of Nepali Congress. On the occasion, lawmaker Madan Bahadur Amatya said the promulgation of a democratic constitution is a must to lead the country towards development. CPN-MAOIST ASKS GOVT TO EXPEDITE RESCUE WORKS IN SUNKOSHI The CPN-Maoist has urged the government to immediately proceed the rescue job targeting the Sunkoshi flood affected people in Sindhupalchowk district. Issuing a press statement, CPN-Maoist spokesperson Pampha Bhusal urged the government to take all measures for the security of peoples life and property. VICE PRESIDENT FOR MASTER PLAN OF DOLESHWOR TEMPLE Vice-President Parmanand Jha has urged for the immediate implementation of the Doleshwor Temple Master Plan. Performing a pooja in the temple today, Vice-President expressed his commitment to help implement the master plan. After seeing the deteriorated condition of the road section to the Doleshwor Temple, the Vice-President directed the Local Development Officer (LDO) Arjun Bahadur Thapa and the District Technical Office to carry out the construction works of the road section immediately. BISTA FOR SIGNING PTA WITH INDIA BASED ON NATL INTEREST CPN (UML) Secretary Gokarna Bista has said the power trade agreement (PTA) with India should be done by keeping the national interests in centre. At a press meet in Kathmandu today, the former energy minister said that the PTA should be done without fixing levy, quota and tax. He also expressed confidence that singing PTA with India will contribute to Nepals hydropower development. PM Koirala: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has directed the Home Ministry to give easy and safe outlet to the Sunkoshi River in order to save the life, property and physical infrastructures. At a press release issued by Prime Minister Koirala´s press coordinator Prakash Adhikari today, PM Koirala directed all security bodies , local administration and the agencies associated with the management of natural disaster to shift the victimized residents in the districts of the Sunkoshi river to secured places. The Prime Minister also mentioned the need of creating awareness among local people to adopt safety measures. CPN-MAOIST AGAINST PDA The CPN-Maoist has said that its attention was drawn to the news regarding the preparations for power development agreement (PDA) between the Investment Board of Nepal Government and Indian company GMR for the development of Upper Karnali Hydropower Project. Issuing a press statement today, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidhya has objected to the move stating that the deal would be a step for Indias monopoly on Nepals water resources. Chairman urged the government to strike the deal maintaining national consensus based on national interest.
