THREE GOLD MEDALS FOR PANAMA, by Alfons Juck, EME News SANTIAGO DE CHILE (CHI, Mar 14): Olympic Beijing gold medalist Irving Saladino won the long jump during evening session of 2nd day of athletics at South American Games. He leaped to 816 (-0.5) and was part of three gold medals success for Panama in Chile. Silver for Emiliano Lasa from Uruguay with national record 794 (+0.5) and bronze for fresh World Indoor champion Mauro Vinicius 788 (+0.7). Alonso Edward won the 100 m in 10.23 (+1.1) over Brazilian Jefferson Lucindo 10.30 and Alex Quinonez from Ecuador 10.39. Third gold for Panama by Yvette Lewis over the hurdles in 13.11 (-1.6). Brazilian gold in women pole vault by 2011 World champion Fabiana Murer 440 over World youth champion Rosbeilys Peinado from Venezuela 420. In the 100 m Brazilian favorite Franciela Krasucki only third 11.67 (-0.1), the race was won by Colombian Maria Idrobo 11.62 ahead of Ecuador talent Angela Tenorio 11.64. Colombia got two golds in women events. Muriel Cuneo won the 1500 m in 4:15.66 and Flor Ruiz javelin with 60.59 PB (here second Brazilian Jucilene de Lima 60.17). Argentina celebrated Federico Bruno winning men 1500 m in good 3:39.96 PB and Peru hurdles winner Javier McFarlane 13.77 PB (+0.5). Overnight leaders in combined events are Brazilians Luiz de Araujo (4009 decathlon) and Tamara de Souza (3422 heptathlon).
