THURSDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2014 NEWS • A four year old girl of Mungwi’s Ngoli area has died after she was hit by a Scania Marcopolo bus. Northern Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said the incident happened around 13:00Hrs on the Kasama-Mbala road as the young girl was crossing the road. Commissioner Katanga said the girl died on the spot due to fatal injuries. She identified the driver of the bus registration number ABK 9780 as Kajinana Grifan of Chingola *********************** • The 16 year-old boy of Kasama’s Mulenga Hills Township suspected to have murdered his 22 year old aunt has appeared in the Kasama magistrates’ court for mention. Facts before court are that between Saturday, 6th September and Sunday, 7th September, 2014, the juvenile suspect allegedly murdered his aunt, Grace Muzumala. The suspect is remanded at Milima State Prison awaiting his case to be committed to the High Court. Ms Muzumala is said to have been slayed by the 16-year old boy who is a nephew to her husband in the early hours of Sunday, after she rebuked him for returning home late and drunk. She was buried at Kasama’s Chiba Cemetery on Tuesday this week and her funeral was attended by hundreds of people. *********************** • Meanwhile, Scores of women have petitioned police to thoroughly investigate the age of the boy who allegedly raped and murdered a 22 year old lady of Kasama’s Mulenga-Hills area Women, who stormed mano news last night, charged that it is not possible for a 16 year old boy to rape and murder a 22 year old lady. They urged police to verifying the age of the suspect by looking at his birth certificate and authenticate it with his school record. On Sunday, the named 16 year old boy raped and stabbed his uncle’s wife to death after she rebuked him for returning home late and drunk. The late Grace Muzumala was put to rest on Tuesday this week. *********************** • Two juveniles on Tuesday testified how a Kaputa clergyman indecently assaulted them when they went to seek prayers from his church. This is in a matter in which ‘Prophet’ Samson Chipili Kalumba of St. Moses God of the Spirit also known as (Ba Mutumwa) is accused of indecently assaulting the two juveniles, who are also twins. Kalumba is facing two counts of indecent assault. Narrating the ordeal before Kaputa Magistrate Victor Mukupa, the girls said they approached Kalumba in the hope that he would pray for the stomach problems which they were facing at that time. However, they were ordered to report back with four meters of white cloth, a dish, perfume, two candles, two cups and water from the river before they could receive healing. They said when they took the items; Kalumba performed a ritual with the water and told them to wait until an ‘angel’ told him what to do. After a few moments, Kalumba took the ‘Holy water’ to a nearby bush where he ordered them to undress and bathed them one after the other. But while performing this ritual, Kalumba started touching their private parts. One girl narrated that in the process, she was meant to bend while the accused inserted something in her private parts. They said Prophet Kalumba repeated this on each one of them in the middle of the night and told them not to reveal what had happened to anybody including each other. They said this strange behavior, however, made them tell their parents who later apprehended Kalumba and took him to police. Kaputa Magistrate Victor Mukupa has set September 12, 2014 for determination of whether the accused has a case to answer. *********************** • Government says it is committed to improving Health care service delivery by increasing the nursing staff in the country. Speaking when he graced a joint graduation ceremony for nurses from Chengelo, Chilonga and Kasama schools of nursing held at Kasama General Hospital yesterday, Health minister Joseph Kasonde said nurses are the heart of health care hence government’s decision to increase staffing. Dr Kasonde revealed that government has allocated K2 million for the rehabilitation of Lukupa training center as a midwifery school. The minister of health also urged nurses to be dedicated to their duty. Earlier, Nursing Council of Zambia registrar general Universe Mulenga urged nurses to be professional and responsible in their conduct. *********************** • Meanwhile, Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe has described as sad and embarrassing the attitude of some nurses. Mr Sikazwe stated that it is disheartening that nurses whom he said should be a source of hope to patients and their relatives often react in an inappropriate manner. He charged that a number of people die of depression in hospitals as a result of some nurses’ attitude. The nurses’ graduation ceremony at which about 116 nurses graduated was held under the theme; NURSES A VITAL RESOURCE IN ZAMBIA”S HEALTH CARE DELIVERY CELEBRATION 50 YEARS OF PEACE AND PROSPERITY. *********************** • Mbala District Commissioner, Best Kabulembe has issued a strong warning to civil servants holding dark corner meetings to position themselves for political positions. Mr. Kabulembe said he was aware that there were some civil servants who are meeting at the named lodge in the district to start planning for their political campaign strategies. He said this during the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting at Grasshopper Inn conference hall over the weekend. Mr. Kabulembe warned that those public workers holding secret political meetings risk losing employment because it is a violation of the provisions of the code of ethics for the public service workers. The district commissioner has since advised civil servants aspiring for political offices to resign before the long arm of the law caught up with them. *********************** • Luwingu’s Lubansenshi Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka has implored on people of Northern Province to foster peace and unity. Speaking in a telephone interview from Lusaka, Mr Mucheleka said it is high time people in the province concentrated on development unlike engaging in what he termed as retrogressive politics. The independent Lubansenshi lawmaker has since charged that changes in the ruling PF will help in reducing squabbles. ***********ENDS************
